thanks guys for the help, i was on hold with Intel for an RMA and i figured what the heck, and jammed the CPU in the slot one more time. Guess what it booted. then i hung up the phone. thanks again. Now to overclock :)
Sh1t, it looks like it is the cpu. i tried the celeron again and it booted. The P3 must not have been happy when i removed its HS/Fan.
Anyone know how to RMA an Intel processor? It was a retail.
yeah, the memory was in the first slot before. The mother board is a Soyo 6BA+IV.
I just unpluged and pluged in the main power, still nothing.
It seems like the hard drive is not spinning up.
Here's the story, system was running fine. then..
Removed the retail HS/Fan from a P3 700 and replaced it with an Alpha 3125 with silver grease.
Added some extra case fans (2) and a bay cooler.
Inserted the cpu and hit the power.
Black screen, the hard drive light never comes on. the fans...
which processor would be better suited for runing FreeBSD? If their is not a huge difference i would'nt mind saving a few bucks and getting a Celeron.
At first the FreeBSD box will only be running as a DMZ host outside of my network. Eventually i plan on using it as a file server.

Have the paging file separate from the boot partition if possible (better performance, it will keep the paging file from competing with the operating system files)
While Windows is operating the Pagefile.sys cannot be deleted. If for some reason the swap file is deleted, Windows will re-create...
on the PCB their is a chip about 3cm x 3cm. On top of it is a small 1cm x 1cm plate. It looks like the small plate is glued on to the chip.
Here is a picture. it's in the center of the chip in the middle. it looks like it has silver stuff on it.

i took off the heatsink/fan from an SECC2 retail 700e.
One more question, do i keep the little plate (about 1cm) on the chip?
Is this what the Alpha P3125 connects to with thermal grease?
Or do i remove this too, and attach the Alpha to the chip itself?

I thought the Mosel was suposed to hit 140 at Cas2? Im using infineon now and was going to dump it for the Mosel. My infineon will hit 144 @ 3-2-2 but i would like 144@ 2-2-2.
hey rpr, what is the 4th number option you have in your BIOS (2,2,2,5)? the 5? I know about RAS-TO-CAS Delay, RAS Precharge time, and CAS Latency time. Whats your other setting?

i am thinking of using the Alpha P3125 on a Slot1 700 cB0 with a Soyo 6BA+IV motherboard. Will it fit? or cover the DIMM slots? I hear it is heavy, what kind of retention system does it use? Anyone suggest an alternative to the Alpha? Where is the best place to order from? thanks
i'm looking to run a 700e cB0 at 144 FSB at Cas2. I have Memory Man's infenion but it wont do over 138 FSB at Cas2. I have herd from others (Mikewarrior2, err and CamaroGuy) that Crucial has some good Cas2. Any others?
Ok, At 933 it runs fine at Cas2, default voltage.
At 980 at Cas2, default voltage i get the registry error
At 980 at Cas3, default voltage it runs fine
At 1008 at Cas3, voltage +7.5% for a total of 1.77 it runs 3dmark but after some heavy Quake III it freezes.
