Great idea! I agree 1000%.
I have an Aopen KF45A case with 250W Component Pro PS which is NOT on the AMD list. I think mine is ATX 2.01. AMD shows an approved Aopen PS (for Athlons up to 1GHz) which is ATX 2.03. What's the difference? How many watts do you really need for a 1.0/1.1/1.2 GHz...
Yeah, but you have to admit that those Mushkin 256MB modules are pretty nice:
<< the DIMMs worked flawlessly at 2:2:2 settings up to 160 MHz (memory bus frequency). >>
The 128MB rev.3 modules may do 166MHz or more which may be nice if you are overclocking a 133MHz "EB" CPU but if...
I know, I know. I've read the reviews. I've read the numerous personal endorsements on this board. Alright, it's fOcking amazing RAM! My question is regarding how picky my mobo is and whether anyone has first hand experience with this particular combo.
Anyone?
Anyone using this board & RAM combo? I am a bit concerned that the Soyo default IO voltage of 3.5v may be a bit high for this RAM. I don't know how fussy the Soyo board is with different types of RAM. Please relate any experiences with this setup.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Sounds logical. First up the voltage. I assume that this wil raise the temp. How hot is acceptable? If this doesn't give me a stable 840MHz then I'll start to think about a different CPU.
Why oh why am I stuck with a 15% OC? Please help me decide what to change or try next:
PIII700 cA2 with stock HSF
Soyo 6BA+IV
256 MB(128x2)Mitsubishi RAM 7.5ns; specs CAS2 up to 100MHz & CAS3 up to 133MHz
Asus V6800 DDR DLX
IBM DPTA-372050 20.5GB 7200rpm ATA66
SB! Live! Value?
Aopen KF45A...
Thanks FlyingPenguin & Zeeliv for the information.
Akaz1976,
I'm in the Toronto area too. Where can I find Half-Life for $20? How much does CS go for?
Thanks
Please excuse my ignorance. Do you have to buy Half-Life to run Counterstrike? Do you buy Counterstrike or just download it? Is it an add-on or a separate game?
Thanks
Thanks mastertech01,
The 6.31 drivers are "release" so I don't think I can blame them.
I reduced my FSB speed to stock 100MHz and successfully ran games & directx so I guess overclocking was the culprit. My PIII700 cA2 is wearing out after 6 months @ 115% rated speed! I wasn't...
UT locked up at the splash screen. Reboot. Q3A locked up with a grey screen before the ID logo. DirectX tester locked up! Reinstalled video drivers (Nvidia 6.31) and DirectX 7.0a. Same problems.
I figured that WIN98 was hosed somehow so I booted into WIN2K. DirectX diagnostic locked up! Is it...
Thanks for the suggestions. I believe I may as well keep it as is rather than get an i815E board. My cA2 won't O/C past 820. When the price of a PIII800 drops below C$250, I may get one and a PEP66 or try to push my PIII700 farther. It will probably take months for the 760 chipset to get...
What should I replace and what can I salvage?
How much will I have to spend?
What should I charge for parts I am getting rid of?
I am thinking of a switch to AMD but don't know whether to wait for AMD760 or not. What's the most cost-effective upgrade, i.e. most incremental performance for least...
Stark,
I guess it didn't come across clearly that my tongue was in my cheek. What I was suggesting is that you don't throw good money after bad, the baby with the bathwater, etc. It's better to unload the 820 & RIMMS for whatever you can get than to buy an expensive processor to work with...
So you got a great deal or those part fell off the truck or whatever. Just sell that crap and use the money to build something interesting like dual PIII 700 cB0s (OC to 931) on a VIA133A.
Dell charges $480 for a 128MB RDRAM upgrade on their 1Ghz system. I see them online in Toronto for about...
Yeah, 3dMark 2000 is biased! Just look what it did to my office PC:
Dell XPS T500 and ATI Xpert98D with 256MB PC100 RAM:
CPU Intel Pentium III 500 Mhz
3D Accelerator ATI Xpert98D AGP 2X
Chipset ATI 3D RAGE PRO TURBO
Resolution 768*1024
Z-Buffer Depth 16-bit
Frame Buffer Triple

How do you tell if it's Liveware 3 you're downloading? The stupid sblive.com site leads you throughy a licence agreement to a download Liveware for WIN2000 page but no indication of which version you're looking at. Just checked 11:25 am EST and it look like the old crap.
Where can I read up on memory tweaks and/or get an app to tweak? I can't understand how to use H. Oda's WPCREDIT or WPCRSET or even whether they are meant for the BX chipset. I have a Soyo 6BA+IV so I am limited to the system bios unless I can find another utility.
Thanks
