A cheap router is like a cheap hard drive is like a cheap pacemaker. Spend a few extra bucks and buy something like the T-Mobile/Asus AC-1900 (<$50) and enjoy ongoing stability and firmware updates.
I went for this deal and extended my current Bitdefender subscription. However, I'm not a fan of everything they do in their software and turn off a lot of it. I basically want any downloads scanned for viruses and that's it. I don't want my email scanned and I don't want my browsing sessions...
An update on this. The problem was not the PSU since replacing it did not fix the issue. I never got to the bottom of it but the main suspect is the motherboard. I'm guessing that it's a BIOS issue but Gigabyte stopped supporting this board pretty quickly so a solution is not on the horizon...
That's not saying much. I haven't noticed HF stuff getting significantly better over the years. Where they score well is selling stuff cheap that's just good enough to do the job at hand. Chances are that if you pull it out year later for another job it will be rusted/ceased up or the plastic...
I long for the old days when I gave a crap about CPUs. I would have fainted when I saw this deal. Now... meh! What's the point? Entry level CPUs can do 90% of what most people want to do, myself included. SSD's changed the game.
Cowboom was pretty darn good. However it's against BestBuy policy to provide good deals on anything so it doesn't surprise me that it's history. My prediction is that BestBuy will be history within 3 years and Amazon will be the portal for 90% of all tech sales. Adios BB, you will not be missed.
Even though there's not many leaves lying around this time of the year, it's still good to bring out on a warm sunny weekend afternoon to ensure your neighbors outdoor time is disturbed. They are especially good to fill those otherwise quiet moments between the lawnmower and the strimmer.
Yes, sorry, I missed that... big as it is. :) I'm waiting on a $100 for a 500 GB drive, and preferably not TLC consumer grade. I guess I'm in for a long wait.
FYI "HDR Pro" is not HDR, it's something less than HDR. Anything other than simple "HDR" often means that the TV can play HDR content but does not make use of HDR. I could be wrong in this case, but best to read up before making assumptions.
I discovered that my Intel HD 4600 graphics does what I need. It can drive 3840x2160@30Hz which actually works fine for non-gaming purposes. Problem solved with no extra money spent.
I wouldn't necessarily trust optical discs over hard drives. BD-R discs are dye based and data is prone to decay and corruption over time. Hard drives are magnetism based and data is prone to decay and corruption over time. Which is more reliable/durable? I have no idea.
Going OT. Sorry.
Yes, I'm looking at the possibility of using a 40" TV (maybe Sammy UN40KU6290) which would limit me to HDMI 2.0. That puts me in the $100+ bracket for a card, and fanless is not an option that I can see.
I'm sorry if this has been covered before but I can't find a good answer by searching...
What is the minimum graphics chip/card (NVidea and AMD) required to run a 4K display at 60Hz? None of the hardware vendors make this easy to find because they don't provide the refresh frequency in either...
This thread sent me on a bit of an odyssey since I didn't realize that XL discs existed as was curious about which drives supported them. What I discovered was interesting, although may not be entirely the reality. It seems that advances in Blu Ray drives for computers essentially came to a halt...
Old thread, but rather than starting a new one I might as well ask how you got on with your search?
I didn't realize how happy I was with my Squeezebox Radio until I sold it, and I didn't realize how difficult it would be to get something as good if not better. I'm currently using a Sangean...
If you click on the link you can get nail'd for $4.99 now. Deal is tatey bread... dead.
BTW very and fun are two words that don't go together. I can't explain why, but they just don't.
