Asking For Trouble Buying Refurb LCD?

Anyone here ever gotten an LCD refurb that didn't have dead pixels?

Computer crashes about 15 times a day...

Yep, bad PSU or memory problem would be the first suspects I'd look at after determining it's not a spyware/virus problem. Question though: Was the computer working properly before or have you had this problem from the beginning?

Asking For Trouble Buying Refurb LCD?

Yep, good company w/ easy RMA. I'm just wondering, if for example, someone RMA's an LCD because it had a dead pixel or two, but maybe less than five, or whatever the minimum is for it to qualify as being defective --- do they fix it, or just sell it as a refurb since technically it doesn't...

Asking For Trouble Buying Refurb LCD?

I've had some success in the past buying some refurb components, but I'm a little reluctant to get a refurb LCD --- I'm afraid I'll just get someone else's dead pixel problem. Nonetheless, I'm seriously thinking about getting a Samsung 172X as a refurb -- too expensive otherwise. Do you...

any zero dead pixel policy stores for an LCD?

True, but newer technologies are almost always a gamble to some degree.

    Zero Dead Pixel Websites?

172X looks like a very nice monitor from reviews I've read, but a bit pricey for a 17in. I assume you are mostly going for the 12ms response rate?

What do you mean? What news?

are alienware pcs worth the price?

Point is, for some the answer is obviously yes. A lot of ppl want a high end system but are not builders or enthusiast like most here. To them their personal time and effort is worth much more than the premium they'd pay for Alienware, and thus, the extra cost is justified. No one learns to...

    RAM Prices Going Up?

Okay, well at least I'm not going nuts, others are seeing it too. Just seems too steep of a change to be random though. Has to be a cog in the pipeline somewhere for prices to go up that much. Either that or the memory mob families are in collusion, heh heh

    RAM Prices Going Up?

Is it just me, or are system memory prices going up? I'm seeing RAM on Newegg that used to go for $69 going for $100 now ----- what's up with that?

5900SE worth dumping for Sapphire 9800PRO (OEM)?

My vote is that you should wait. There would probably be a little difference depending on what games you play, but not nearly enough to justify an upgrade IMO ---not unless u just have money to blow.
  15. S

    sapphire 9700 pro $160 or 9800 pro $200?

Umm, that's a $52 difference, and last I checked, $52 can go quite a ways towards some other upgrade. If $$$ is not an issue though, I agree that the 9800 pro is better.

5900XT the new Ti4200? (best bang for buck)

The EVGA 5900SE costs more, but seems to perform better. I think I'd go with that one. Every once in a while Newegg has it on sale for about $180.

nvidia losing to ati in recent graphics chip market share

Well, I guess this is an excellent example of the power of branding. Here I was being a diligent consumer trying to figure out the best value/performance for my particular needs and budget when all I really had to do was just pick a brand. I guess leaving my brain sitting outside on the...

Radeon 9600XT or Geforce FX 5900?

Well, I'm not particularly beholden to either camp, but the comparison is sort of a white elephant to begin with. The 9600XT is more appropriately compared to the 5700u not the 5900. The question is like asking whether one should buy a 9800 pro versus a 5800u if they were the same price...

Is this Panaflo 92mm mid-speed BX 3 pin fan 48cfm and 30 dBa - (speed sensing?)

Try Frozen CPU or Xoxide --- both sell 3 & 4 pin tails/adapter wires made specifically for panaflo fans. You just plug em into the fan, no muss, no fuss.

$18? What, are you buying in bulk? Just get a small tube for $6 or $7 bucks and give it a whirl .... it's really very good stuff, works great for me.

Visiontek ti4600 - replacing fan with something quieter

Well think of it this way: since it has no moving parts it should last you a very long time, so in the long run it may prove cheaper than replacing noisy or worn out fans on a regular basis. Best thing is you'll still be able to use it even after you upgrade to another card. :D

Pick My Video Card --- PLEASE!

    I'd pick in this order of preference 1. 5900 XT/SE 2. 9600 XT or 5700 U 3. 9600 Pro or 9800 SE

Take a look at the Zalman heatpipe -- doesn't require a fan at all. check it out here

It's a little cheaper at newegg. You can also see some of the reviews -- everyone seems to like it.

    good 120mm fan choice

Newegg has some customer reviews on their site for the Enermax. Although I can't say for certain, my guess is that the Evercool will be more likely to live up to its specs --- I think the aluminum chassis makes a difference. Edit: Almost forgot to mention that the Evercool does not send...

Is it safe to use any 80mm case fan on Volcano 9+ HS?

I've seen other posters that are doing exactly that with fairly decent results I guess. However, if you want dramatically better results you may have to switch to something with higher cfm.

Please help me find a good case w/ ps!

Yeah go with one of the Antec cases. 3700AMG, 3700BQE, SX635BII, or even 660AMG --- all include PSU and can be had for less than $100. Other option includes just getting a nice case for under $60.00 and go with this PSU which works great -- currently sells for $42.00.

    Cheap heatsink

I think your first mistake was trying to skimp on something as important as your heatsink. I mean, I can understand not wanting to spend more than you really have to spend, but there are some components that do require a little more $$ if you want decent performance --- your heatsink is one of...

who makes the best SATA hard drives?

Lots of threads on this topic. Do a search to see other comments. Storage Review likes Hitachi best for overall performance, but they cost a little more. For pure speed, none are faster than the WD Raptor 10k rpm, but it's the most expensive per GB. Seagate and Maxtor sort of a toss up -...
