Looking for a flash or HDD based HD camcorder with firewire

Firewire isn't really necessary anymore if you're using a hard drive or Flash based camcorder. You can transfer the files via USB. But, you need to find out is what file format the camera records to. There are tons of HDD and Flash camcorders... but most record to some wacky file format or...

    Which domain registrar?

Thanks for turning me onto NameCheap! I am going to move my domains there! But, I have a few questions: Has anyone transferred domains from Network Solutions to NameCheap? Is it painless? Can I create one account with NameCheap and have all my domains under it? It would be so nice to...

    Firefox ?

I don't have problems with opening tabs. I just wanna know why when I click back to go to a previous page, it first goes back to the top of that page, then jumps to where on the page I was before... instead of going right back to where I was on that page previously.

Let's say I'm viewing a webpage with Firefox, and I scroll to the bottom on the page, then click a link. Now I'm on the new page. When I click the back button, it goes back to the top of the previous page... THEN jumps down to where I was on that page. Does anyone know why this happens? If...

Grabbing video from my camcorder and Tivo (directV)

If your camcorder has video inputs, you can connect your TIVO to the camcorder and record it to a tape. Then capture that tape with your computer. I'm assuming you have a MiniDV camcorder and a Firewire input on your computer. If not, then the answer is still out there...

    CD/DVD Printing

I have an Epson R200 and have never had any problems with it. Prints CDs right out of the box. In fact, that's mostly what I print with it. Or, you can buy the Canon IP4300, then have to buy the CD tray separate then modify the printer?

Is there a way to rip DVDs without losing quality

Rip the main movie with DVD Shrink, and save it to the hard drive. You'll get the VIDEO_TS folder with VIDEO_TS.IFO all the VOBs, and you can play it on your computer with a DVD player such as PowerDVD. With no compression, it will be the same size as the movie was on the DVD... 4-8 gb.

Downloading video from DV Cam to PC - Firewire or USB2.0?

MiniDV camcorders have had Firewire ports since they first came out. USB ports were added to camcorders to mainly get still pictures off the memory card. It's not that USB 2.0 can't handle the video stream... it's that Firewire has always been the preferred way to get video into the...

Camcorder Q: Canon Elura 100 vs. Canon ZR-500

Good idea. MiniDV is the way to go. Hard drive camcorders compress the data a lot as soon as you shoot it... and so does DVD. Tapes will give you the best picture for now. Good luck on the proposal!!!

Downloading video from DV Cam to PC - Firewire or USB2.0?

And don't forget that Firewire has a sustained transfer rate, which is perfect for video. USB has too much overhead, and was ever intended for video transfer. USB looks faster on paper... but Firewire is technically faster because if its architecture.

Downloading video from DV Cam to PC - Firewire or USB2.0?

Firewire is the standard way to get MiniDV into the computer. All video editing apps support it. Basically, it plays the tape and records it into the computer... as a perfect copy of the tape. Get a Firewire card. You won't regret it.

Camcorder Q: Canon Elura 100 vs. Canon ZR-500

You'd probably never notice the difference between their image quality. The Elura has more other features to make it more expensive. The biggest problem will be showing SD video on an HDTV. MiniDV is always 720x480, and your TV is 1280x720. Those Canons claim to offer true widescreen...

I need to burn 250 CDs

15 minutes each? Yikes! If you ever need to make that many copies of a CD, I'd suggest an inkjet printer for labeling. Using inkjet printable CDs, a capable printer such as the Epson R200 prints on the disks in about a minute each. Inkjet Discs I sell 50-60 DVDs every couple months, and...

    CD/DVD duplicators - what's inside?

Inside the tower is a controller board, a power supply and the drives. Some duplicator towers have hard drives to save disc images. Here's an example of a controller board: http://www.cybersprinter.com/item_description.asp?prodid=114283 It's probably cheaper to buy a duplicator already...

Program to backup 100s of gigs to dvd automatically?

    Video camera: Mini-DV or DVD?

That's a good idea, but at 13gb per hour, it will eat up hard drive space quickly, for just archiving. Just keep your tapes somewhere safe. I have all my tapes in a plastic box.... I need to get a safe or fireproof lockbox. There is a pic above in an earlier post.

    Video camera: Mini-DV or DVD?

When you are looking at your AVIs afterwards... are you looking at them in Windows Media Player or something similar? DV is 720x480... so, if your media player is stretched or maximized, it will distort the video preview. I'm not exactly sure about how WinDV does its thing... but from...

    Video camera: Mini-DV or DVD?

A 60 minute tape in SP will result in a 13gb file. Never use LP. They make 80 minute tapes, but they usually cost twice as much. Just keep a few 60 minute tapes handy. Set up your video editing/capture program to capture to an AVI file or whatever they call "high quality" capture via...

    Video camera: Mini-DV or DVD?

Yeah, I figured it would be the professional news people who love those types of cameras. I just feel bad for the poor consumers who get suckered into the JVC hard drive camcorder at Best Buy, as the salesmen tells them, "this is the greatest camera ever... you don't even need tapes!" Then...

any recommendations for camcorder under $800

Interfacing cctv cameras into a computer

    Digital Camcorder recording question

The bad thing is... DVD camcorders don't have a Firewire output. At least the Sonys I've seen haven't. So, you'd be connecting a DVD camcorder with analog S-video or even the dreaded yellow composite cable... yuck! Kinda defeats the purpose of being digital... As for tapes breaking... I...
