I still have one of these running Win98se for my sister in law. Have you check Hardware monitor setup in bios? There are 4 choices, they should be set to [ignore] for testing puposes.

You might try a set of high resolution cables but only if your switch supports higher settings. I had same problem with my Belkin Omniview 4 port, picked up 2 sets from here and I'm running at 1280 by 1024. Cableclub
There is as known issue with older ATI cards during W2K install. I keep a matrox pci card around for such occasions. Once you get W2k installed theres not a problem anymore and you can replace with your ATI card. There is a fix but it easier for me to just swap cards.

Like any microsoft product, you got to update the buggy software. if you install both SP1a and SP1b and other assorted patches, your looking at around 80 megs worth of upgrades. The biggest concern seems to be security issues.
My Tazer seems to effectively kill hardware for good. Its amazing what 50,000 volts can do to electronics. I've never had a vendor tell me there's nothing wrong with this part you rma'd to us.
