random restarts

If you are overclocking: don't. High FSB frequencies are the only way that I've ever replicated memory errors of that nature. Also, check your memory latencies - if you are intimidated by timings, set them to 'BySPD' or 'Factory Default'.

Have you tried the videocard in any other machine? I would. Though, it doesn't make much sense that there aren't any abnormal POST beeps.

Troubleshooting BSODs

Are you overclocking? The only time that I've EVER seen a stack dump is when my FSB is too high, and my RAM can't handle it.

Best mid/low-range(price) graphics card? Bang for the buck?

Keep in mind: Unlocking doesn't always work. My friend unlocked his vanilla 6800 and got it to work, but lost the ability to overclock - and in his case overclocking it offered more performance than unlocking it. You just never know, but all in all a 6800 is a nice card indeed. edit...

Superfetch in vista...

...uh.... that seems like an awful idea on MS's behalf. For running 'optimally' Vista requires a SATA2 drive (which are capable of a 300MB/s burst transfer rate) and at least DDR400 RAM ( 3200MB/s), even using a standard IDE 133 HD you still get speeds gusting to 133MB/s. NOW, compare that...

Windows XP Pro load time...

My guess that the reason that is slow is because (I assume) that your operating system is on the RAID...when your system completes POST, it has to the initiate the RAID BIOS, where the hard drives in the array are detected...this could be adding the seconds that you are missing out on.

Yeah, I have Firefox 0.9.2 and I love it...I am not sure why I didn't move to the mozilla wave sooner. Too bad you can't completely remove IE (unless you're running Win 95)...

3Dmark 05 = blah.

Yet another rant about 3Dmark05, but when I ran this 'benchmark' for the first time yesterday, I was just plain insulted. How can a systen that gets 45000 Aquamarks get 1100 in 3dmark05? Sure, the tests were beautiful, but they ALL ran at less than 2FPS the ENTIRE time. What is Futuremark up...

Travelling between solar systems...

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line...so I suppose that what I mean is that if we could in effect 'warp' space, we could make two distant places become very close to each other...meaning that propulsion wouldn't necissarily be an issue.

WIndows XP vs 2000

Not to spark a humungous debate, but I do believe that in general Windows 2000 is faster. Now, in terms of boot time, XP does take the cake. To me, XP just seems like a n00bed-out version of W2K.

5900XT or 5900? Now with poll :p

Mine is an MSI 5900XT, and it has hynix 2.2 and runs at 390/700 stock. Though, a simple BIOS flash is all you need to go to 5950U speeds.

Geforce4 440 Go 64 meg: What games can I play with this?

I *still* own an mx440 (though, I am not using it anymore), and let me tell you that it will play Morrowind and UT2K4 (the latter QUITE well @ 1024*768 /w High details)...though I think I might dust it off and try to play DOOM III on it....heheheh.

Why are you attempting to 'force' the gateway? This could be the problem within itself, if I am not mistaken, every time you unplug your network cable Windows will change the gateway IPs back to auto-sensing. That could be the prob, or maybe it is in conjunction with how often you release IPs...

Of what use are WinXP/Win2k memory dumps?

I can't remember the URL, but it was in the MSDN that I saw all of the codes for blue screen errors in Win2k...though I am not sure how you get Win2k to crash. The only time I can get it to crash is when overclocking gets to far (usually too hard on the RAM) and Read/Write access fails, in...

Are Floppy Drives Obsolete?

I don't think that they are obsolete...everytime I say, "no, I don't need that taking up space in my case" , it never fails that I'm rooting through drawers a week later trying to find the damn drive. Now I think useless: Zip disks - slow, outdated, and NO ONE has one.
