    Yup, especially with gold and platinum cards. Check the card issuer. This is why I would never buy one of those service plans (in reality anly provide an additional year after the double warranty). Save the money for the next computer.

    For $1300 after rebate, you could have a wonderful computer in the emachines Athlon 64 notebook. Also, I would consider a Dell Inspiron 600m or Dell Lattitude d600, as you should also be able to get good bang for the buck. I also believe HP is offering compaq and HP notebooks with $100 rebate...

    For your needs, I would definatley go with the 600m, or its sister the Lattitude d600. I would only consider the 300m if you are going to be doing a lot of computing on the go.

    You can get that ibook for $999, or better yet the 14.1 inch with 933Mhz for $1199 at the Apple education store website. Also, you can get yourself a nice Dell centrino based notebook 600m - $1174 (1 year warranty) Lattitude D505 - 3 year warranty

    The latter 2 have higer performance memory, but use shared video memory, which I am not a huge fan of. I think dedicated video will improve performance more than faster memory. The centrino is also more mobile, so I would go with a. I love the widescreens, but I would shoot for a WSXGA+...

    I agree...if it has to be a dell, get a Latitude P-M (d600 or d800; Inspiron 8600 and 600m are not bad either)...those Inspiron 1100/5100 are too bulky and not the best quality.
