On a serious note are games going to use more cores

I would agree with this assessment. With low end i3's and Ryzen 3's being quads now and affordable hexa-cores being available, I would hope that multi-threaded optimization gets more of a boost.

Vega/Navi Rumors (Updated)

I would say no, at least not if they hope to sell in any real volume. They should be able to, but the at price and performance parity, Nvidia will still get a lions share of the market because of perception. AMD will need to offer obvious performance advantage to charge the same for most users...

Pretty sure the next rig I build will be Ryzen. My 5820k has served me well, but if a 12-16 core Ryzen cpu pops up then I'll be going that route.

I think the latest beta version of Afterburner should have voltage control for you. I have the MSI 1070 Gaming (non X) and the core voltage slider is unlocked.

Moey, you might want to even try moderate overclocking and undervolting. I have my XFX 390 set to 1100/1625 with -20mv.

New (2016) Vizio P series announced

I have been thinking of moving onto 4k from my Panasonic ST50 55" which will end up in the game room replacing a decade old 1080p Samsung 46". I'll be looking out for reviews of these new Vizio's.

Upgrade to 390x or 980Ti?

Like some others, I'd say wait if possible. I actually just sold my 980ti for $550 locally ($25 less than I got it for new) and picked up a super cheap XFX R9 390 to hold me over until I can see what the new cards have to offer.

You might want to double check and make sure that the X31 is applying even pressure on the gpu die. I doubt that is the issue, but depending on how it was tightened down, maybe the die was getting uneven cooling?

I'd personally wait, but out of the 3 I'd go with a 390 if a good deal pops up. I got my 390 for essentially $230 after selling the game and rebate.

29" Curve vs. 34" Curve (21:9)

I feel the same way. I have a 29" ultra wide and compared to my 32" Benq, it feels tiny. The 34" would for sure be better, but not quite enough vertical for my tastes, so I think your 39-40" ultra wide is what I would be waiting for as well. That's me though, my son for example will game on...

I disagree, although if any banning should take place, maybe it should be to the trolls that passionately defend the abomination known as Gameworks and suggest that everyone but high end PC owners just capitulate and become lowly console gamers.

AMD being smart about who gets a review sample

Really, who cares. AMD or Nvidia or MSI or Asus or Intel or whoever can give samples to whatever sites they want and the remainder can buy their samples. In the end, a KitGuru review has 0 impact on my purchase decisions as do several other sites that give similar borderline mediocre reviews...

GTX 780 Ti OC vs R9 290 OC (My benchmarks)

I have the DCII 290 and found that replacing the TIM helped with temps a decent amount. Stock fan profile and OC'd to 1100/5800 (+20mv) never goes over 80C and stays quiet.

No reason to spend extra money, the R9 290 is the way to go. There are several good options out there that are pre-OC'd and run pretty cool and quiet. It will be a big upgrade from your current card.
