Slow LAN xfers... IP to IP only

Also, if your machines are XP, then you might want to install teh NetBEUI protocol for your lan adapters. Inherently, XP does LAN traffic as IP. IPX or NetBEUI is much faster. I had the same problem. If you can't find the NetBEUI protocol, look on your XP disc.

    Issues with Linksys Wireless B

Make sure you have your Router set to PPP0E and to keep the connection alive. Sounds like the router and modem aren't talking to each other. Directly connect your PC to the DSL modem to see if you still have connection. Set up your machines to DHCP, and set your router to DHCP server. You...

How do you get past a black screen?

Wanna know something funny. My new system I built with a 9600XT will not send a signal to my monitor to make it kick back on from a reboot. So, everything is running fine, yet I have no picture and the monitor is black. I turn the monitor off then on and it gives me a picture. Kind of a...

Weird Access problem with XP and 2k.

Wolfie, For your reference, at the login screen for XP, you can ctrl alt del and get the classic 2K login box. You can enter in the admin account/password there. If you get TweakUI for XP at MS.com, you can also use it to tweak XP back to looking like 2K.

yep with RA, he can actually see what you are doing so he can learn to do it himself. Try RA thru MSM as suggested. Also, did you try logging into his machine using his login/password? You don't have to have a login setup for yourself. But, you need to make sure that his system is allowing...

Wireless is connected but no internet access??. any help please

In XP there is a service specifically for WiFi compatibility and networking. YOu said the other machines have XP and hers 2K. Well, that WiFI service is Automatic by default. Check her services and make sure it is on (if it is even there). I don't know much about 2K wireless support however...

Where do you plug in the 3 pin connector for the Power LED on a motherboard that has no 3 pin spot?

I was at Frys yesterday. They had the 3pin connector to 2 pin connector adapter. It was a male connector on teh 3 side, and female on the 2 side.

    opionions on board for prescott

327, Check out the new Abit AI7. Just put mine in yesterday. Very nice board. Check out this thread over at the Abit forums. A guy cranked his Prescott 3 Gig to 3.9Gig. http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40751 so it may be a good choice for it. Newegg has the board for...

P4P800 Deluxe - Case: Front USB Ports....?

You should have a set of pin headers on the mobo for each. Use the USB ones. On the P4p800 I had, the header had a row of 5 pins and a row of 4. Depending on the case wiring, you may have connectros that fit these perfectly, or you may have 2 4-pin connectors. Just make sure you have the...

    Minimum Requirements

Yeah, that should be fine. I run COD on 512 PC133 (in the middle of an upgrade however) and the games ran fine. Shouldn't be any or very little HDD caching with 512MB. Later however, you can upgrade to 1 gig when you get the money and should keep any HDD caching from happening. But, you can...

    opionions on board for prescott

Wouldn't an 875 board work better for prescotts? I don't think the 865 boards were designed in mind for the power consumption of the prescotts. I would look to those boards like an abit IC7 Max 3 or an ASUS P4C800 series.

    Best Performance: 230MHz 1:1 or 250MHz 5:4

IMO, running your memory at 1:1 will yield overall better results than pushing your processor a couple 100 MHZ faster. But as always, YMMV. HTH HAND

    Overclock Celeron 1.1GHZ 128K

I've been running my celery 1.1 at 1.26G (115 FSB) on the ABIT VH6. Anything over that and it locks up. But, it's been running for a couple of years like that and temps have never been over 40 at load. But, I agree, overclocking for 160 more MHz is pretty pointless.

    Inaccessable_Boot_Decive

yep, what pelarson said. One way around this, and it's a headache, put in your old mobo. Boot back to 2K, and remove anything that is 3rd party drivers. Sound, video, IDE controllers. For example, if you had a VIA chipset before, remove the VIA 4-in-1 drivers. Remove your ATI/Nvidia drivers...

First time builder. P4P800 deluxe owners please help

    1. Go with 2 sticks of 256MB now. You can double up later and you get the benefit of Dual Channel now. Make sure that you pick a mfg/model number of ram that is supported for all 4 slots. Read the fine print in the QVL on the web for the board. 2. Just installed the 9600XT on an P4P8X last...

I built a system last night with the ASUS P4P8X board. You get all the nice BIOS features of it's big brother, P4P800, but for $87 at newegg.com. It was an absolute breeze to setup. The only thing I changed in the bios upon first boot was the Time/Date and the APG aperture. Booted first...

I just built a system last night with the P4P8x and put in a Sapphire 9600XT. Works great. Actually, manual says a lot of stuff that isn't correct. It doesn't say it supports 800 FSB until you get to under the HT section. On the main specs sheet in the manual, it only says 533/400. Same...
