    Build Complete New Threadripper Pro

Hi AT crew, it's been a while since I've been on. I thought some people might be interested to see a Threadripper Pro build! I'm curious if anyone can recommend some multithreaded benchmarks to try out. I ran CPUz's multithreaded and came up with 210,000... I ran Prime95 with 64 threads and...

    Got a GV100

So, I built another one of these... http://www.portvapes.co.uk/?id=Latest-exam-1Z0-876-Dumps&exid=threads/ideas-for-high-end-simulation-workstation.2533367/ And this one gets a GV100. :-)

Ideas for high end simulation workstation

Ok, we got it built! It's a beast. Ended up with this parts list: Xeon Gold 6146 (12c 3.2GHz) x 2 SuperMicro X11DPI-N 12 x 16GB 2666 = 192GB (was going to use 8GB but were out of stock... bummer) Samsung 960 EVO 1TB SSD WD4000FYYZ 4TB 7200 Cooler Master HAF X Ultra 1000W Titanium (ED: ran out...

Ideas for high end simulation workstation

Thanks for the pointer tamz, it looks like those processors actually can turbo higher than what I've been using (the "turbo" number for the Ark site). Here's a great overview (see page 13)...

Ideas for high end simulation workstation

Huh, I didn't even think about Threadripper. It is in the right performance range and I like the 4ghz boost clock. The only downside is the 4 channels of memory. I have been in contact with the vendor though we mostly discussed the GPU side of things. They highly recommended a dual processor...

Ideas for high end simulation workstation

Atari, I have a good baseline as we use this tool probably half of the day. For single thread operations I'd like to have an improvement so at least 3.5GHz peak turbo speed. For multithreaded simulation it doesn't use the available SMT threads. Overnight - we do some longer simulations...

Ideas for high end simulation workstation

Hi everyone, I put together a beefy machine 3 years ago for EM simulation using CST. It has the following needs: 1. Single-core processing speed (for 3d modeling - math-based, lots of trig) 2. Multi-core processing speed (for certain phases of the simulation process) 3. GPU processing speed...

    Help finding EPYC motherboard

Memory bandwidth is the limiting factor. I'm doing EM simulations with CST. I built a nice box 3 years ago but may need a new one soon. It saves me 15-25% to build it myself. And I've been building boxes since 2001 and just enjoy it. :)...

    Help finding EPYC motherboard

Thanks for the comments guys! I did see that Supermicro board which is pretty similar to the Gigabyte. Yes, it seems just a bit early for an Epyc system. I'm fine with a dual socket board too and just using one if they work that way. I don't need 10 gbe, just a single gigabit port...

Thanks, but I'd rather put it in a standard tower than a server slot.

    Help finding EPYC motherboard

Hi all, I'm looking for a workstation level motherboard for an EPYC processor and am finding rather skimpy results. I only need a single processor. The only one I found had 10gbit Ethernet with a funny connector for fiber that I can't use...

New high power compute workstation - comments?

My buddy ran a CST simulation he had set up and it took 20 minutes compared to all day on his old desktop. :-)

New high power compute workstation - comments?

Well it's all done! I did some stress testing too. Pretty fun to run 35 Prime95 workers, RTHDRIBL, and fahbench all at once. Got 47.3ns/day in fahbench, while everything else was running so it looks like it's going full speed. https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=24225 It's right...

New high power compute workstation - comments?

Mfenn - thanks a ton for the heads-up! It seems unnecessary to have one CPU socket with two mechanical mounting configurations. I wouldn't have noticed until I got the parts except I found a site that showed the two sockets side-by-side. The manufacturer didn't mention the narrow ILM anywhere...

New high power compute workstation - comments?

Howdy all, I'm putting together a high-end compute workstation for a buddy (EM simulation for electronics) - he needs both GPGPU and multi cores, depending on the simulation mode. 1. Any recommendations during assembly/test? 2. Any idea on tools I can use to stress the CUDA GPU for...

Advice about Exchange and Windows server

Thanks for the input everyone! I shut down my VM server and set up hosting through our ISP. Funny thing is, the first 3 days after turning it on their email server was down. So much for better downtime!! Have a nice weekend all.

Advice about Exchange and Windows server

Yes, I'm looking at the server dashboard and it shows a big red line item "Service stopped." I could probably do an auto restart progarm - I'll take a Google around and see what I can come up with. There are a couple other services that stop sometimes too (Exchange health monitor and another...

Advice about Exchange and Windows server

We will not have even that many, more like 4 to start with, possibly growing some beyond that. What kind of maintenance do you typically do? I'll want to back up the email database and the whole VM somehow. It's being somewhat finicky too, the Transport Submission Service stops every few...

Advice about Exchange and Windows server

Greetings, I'm looking for advice about running my own email and website server. I have set up Windows Server 2012 r2 with Active Directory server, IIS, and Exchange Server 2013. It is running in a HyperV virtual machine on my desktop. I have a domain name and DNS service from dynDNS...

Is AT&T BS-ing me? Can GSM connect to tower 30mi away?

My phone will occasionally switch to Central time out at the beach on Lake Michigan because it picks up a cell tower over in Chicago or Milwaukee.

Can I use my PSU as a 12v battery charger?

It won't charge much. Typically you use 13.8V to charge a car battery. It won't hurt anything either, though, unless the battery is dead in which case that is a lot of available current. It could vent some hydrogen from the quick-charging. I'd keep it in an open area so any gas can escape.

    Accelerometer sensitivity

You might be better served with a gyroscope if it is position you are sensing. I'm working extensively with a small (~2x3mm), cheap 3-axis accelerometer. It's good for +/-8Gs with 8-bit resolution, though I think it does 10-bit if you want. It samples at 125 or 250Hz The biggest concern is...

    100,000 miles for AT

+14 this week! I ran two 10K races back-to-back, Saturday and Sunday. Killer hills in both, particularly Sunday which was a beautiful trail run. I was pumped though; I won my age group on the second race (only 200 people ran, though) and 7th overall. :) Only one girl beat me, but not by...

When is a good time to discuss a proposal? After it is passed, like the health care bill?? I also am tired of people complaining that everyone just loves their businesses and hates employees. As an employee who works for a great boss in a small company, I know we would be way better off as...

    Javascript Is freaking CRAZY

Matlab is basically Javascript, isn't it? It's fun to build variable names and create them on the fly, like: for i=1:10 runString = sprintf('varName%d = %d*42;',i,i); eval(runString); end Totally crazy coming from a very static assembly and C world... Also, Sgraffite - there are...
