Anyone give me feedback if this sytem setup I am building is good

yeah i'd go with the A64 and 9800 pro instead. also if you're gonna be playing HL2 and Doom 3 and the like on this system i'd definitely go with 1 gig of ram instead of 512 mb. the games coming out now are memory hogs and take up a lot of ram.

yep you can try selling it here on the for sale/trade forums or on eBay. if you really want to go with the full size graphics card like a 9800 pro and since that's probably a microATX case you should make sure the card will fit first. you also would most likely need a AGP/PCI riser card as well...

Safe or Unsafe? Washing Keyboard

i've heard some people remove all the keys then clean it with dishwashing soap and water and then put all the keys back after drying. sounds a bit tedious though unless you want it thoroughly cleaned.

yeah, it's nice to see AMD moving up a bit now. they definitely have tough competition against Intel but it's true, AMD is starting to make profits across all their product lines especially from their flash ram division whereas Intel is struggling with some of their platform processors.

Should a HD always be partitioned?

wow 2 days, you must have a lot of stuff on your pc. it usually takes me a good 4-5 hours to do a reformat and complete reinstall of all my programs.

Whats good scores in 3dmark 2001?

hmm...i'm not sure i'd even try benchmarking unless i had a really fast gaming system. have you thought about upgrading your video card to something like a geforce4 ti? you'll at least be able to play your current games at a higher resolution.

Should a HD always be partitioned?

same here, one HD for programs/OS and a 2nd HD for all my backed up data such as the latest drivers, program exe.'s to reinstall all my software, doc's, photos, MP3's etc. this makes reformatting and reinstalling a lot easier.

My upgrade path

right now you're running just the minimum system requirements for the game. if you upgrade your card now, from what i've read of other's experiences with the game, you'll need something like an ati 9700/geforce 5700 equivalent or higher to run it decently and that's with some eye candy turned...

what version of CS are you playing? are you running it in Open GL or D3D? did you disable vsync? before you can say for sure it's the graphics card, you should try running several other games and see how they play. do the same artifacts show up in other games? is the card overclocked? make sure...

thanks GTaudiophile for the links. i think they're both great cards but i also give the slight nod to ATI at least for the moment. however, i'm not that hardcore of a gamer though to plop down $500 for either of them right now.

What does this error msg mean?

yep, make sure when you reset the cmos jumper the PSU is unplugged otherwise the cmos isn't getting cleared otherwise your replacement battery may also be on low charge as mentioned.

hmm...a mobile barton 2500+ is in the same price range and you could get more performance for now if you overclock it. i'd agree with Cerb and get a good quality PSU now too. you may need one with 480 watts IF you decide in the future to get a card such as the 6800 U which requires the higher...

What programs do you run at startup?

yeah we were wondering the same thing. it seems to start up after you run Quicktime. even if you uncheck the start on Windows option, if you run the program again that qttask shows up on startup. :confused:
