Netbooks and Overseas Warranties

My aspire one came with some documentation that said 1 year international travelers warranty, appears to be standard as opposed to an additional cost warranty. Might be worth looking into that at the acer website to see exactly what the terms are.

Should I keep the Dell M170 or sell for something better?

It comes down to this, I guess. Acer Aspire One

Why not go for the Aspire one with the 6 cell battery and 160gig HD for only $50 more? I have the Aspire one 120gig with 3 cell and am currently looking for a low priced 6 cell because the only thing my system doesn't have is great battery life. If you plan on upgrading to the 6 cell later...

xga vs xga+??

The standard WXGA is 1280X800 vs the 1440x900 of the WXGA+. I have a WXGA+ screen on my D620 with 14" screen and I really enjoy it. The WXGA resolution IMO is fine on a 12" screen, but isn't that great on a larger one.

Well my zune got here today and the case I bought for it at Target sucks! It doesn't fit right at all, especially around the screen. Radioshack had some ones marked down that are similar to the Speck rubber type cases so I ordered one in store and hopefully that will be a better fit.

FYI for all those who got in on the Zune deal, both Target and Staples have zune gear on clearance. I got a $20 case for $5 @ target, and staples had pretty much everything zune related marked down, most just a few dollars right now. YMMV of course.

Looking for a cheap, used notebook for classwork

A thinkpad T30 will have a p4-m or a p4 processor which is not close to a p-m processor. They also have a very common problem where one of the ram slots no longer functions (check forum.thinkpads.com if you want some reassurance). The T40 series would definately be a better buy for your needs...

Looking for dual-core lappy with battery life being the main focus

You could get a Dell latitude D630 w/extended battery and get a modular bay battery to swap with the optical drive if you want crazy long battery life. IRC, a thinkpad T6X model should have the same type of setup available.

Is this battery bad????

I've found this to be a common trend among P4 laptops since they run so hot. A good thorough cleaning every 6mos or so and an application of thermal grease instead of the factory thermal pad does wonders for them.

Laptop Optical Drives - a stupid question

Nearly all laptop optical drives are going to have the same interface on the drive itself. What you're going to need to find out is if you need a drive caddy for it and if the faceplate it comes with will work with your laptop. Here's an example of what I'm talking about from an older Latitude...

Depending on what time of day you talk with a tech at Dell, they can set it up to have the part out to you next day. I chatted with them last week about getting my bottom casing replaced around 1:00p.m. and the tech was out at my apartment at 12:00p.m. the next day with the part ready to work...

Warm: Ultra portable laptops direct from HP starting at $599

Not to get too off topic, but screen resolution preference is going to vary from person to person. Personally I like the 1280x800 resolution on a 12" wide screen, moreso than a 1024x768 on a standard aspect ratio 12". This is from actual use on my 700m and now D420 vs my D410 and HP NC4000...

The 8.86x6.5 in and 1.96 lbs for the EEE vs 13.11x9.57 in 4.85 lbs for the celebrity is a substantial difference. While it's not really comparable to a PDA, it's also not in the same class as the 14" celebrity.

Dell Inspiron 8600 Problem

Try hooking it up to an external monitor and see if fn+F8 displays anything for you. You could also try a different stick(s) of ram as I had a similar issue with a laptop and swapping ram fixed the problem.
