ATI and Nvidia gearing up to face Intel

Intel has always made practically useless integrated 3D solutions and anyone wanting any performance gets an ATi/nVidia GPU. This is not news, and like Genx said, you don't compete with the low end by releasing the ultra high end.

SLOW HaloPC performance with 9800

Not quite...FEAR may not be the most efficient code out there, but Halo is hands down the most badly coded game for PC ever, considering the source. How they managed to take it from a Celly 733/GF3 (XBox) to PC and it still hurts my 6800GT is beyond me. Part of me wonders whether or not it was...

Why does Quake 4 run so poorly on the Xbox 360?

All conjecture as to what the performance of the XBox360 is aside, it's obvious that it's just a bad port, which can happen in both directions (Halo for PC, lest we forget).

While I will admit that the recent string of completely unneccessary pro-nV/anti-ATi threads have been quite annoying, you still need people calling out the companies for the big problems, otherwise they (the companies) keep getting away with it. I think people definitely should call out nV IQ...

Best card to tie me over until next gen?

The x800GTO is the best bet if you know your stuff (as far as modding is concerned), but personally I'd say that if you're just getting this as a stopgap solution, get a cheaper card that can do what you need, like the 6600GT/x800 (your choice, both are good cards).

7800GTX 512 in low quantities

Very bad move if it turns out to be true. It doesn't matter if they want to outcompete the x1800XT as soon as possible with this ubercard, they shouldn't deviate from their hard launches. And just when we were starting to get used to them, too.

X1600 and X1300 don't need Master Cards

Great job by ATi to get Crossfire away from the Master Card fiasco, but what's the reasoning behind adding it to these cards? Most people firmly agree that multicard is the realm of the ultra high end, not two mid end cards, much less two bargain basement cards like the x1300. Good idea...

X850 vs 7800GTX

I can't believe people are actually thinking about when R580 is coming out. They just now managed to release a tiny handful of R520's, you can't think R580 is anywhere near completion, much less with 3x the pipes. Plus, the numbers for the 512mb GTX are still just speculation at this point as...

550 seems reasonable if they've tweaked the core (and we all know they've had time to), but 600 is a little extreme. As for the memory, it doesn't matter too terribly whether or not it's 1800 or just the 1500 that the XT has, both would be great for making up that 25% bandwidth deficiency...

1) Did you use Driver Cleaner between the 9800Pro and the 7800GT? 2) That's not exactly a top-of-the-line motherboard. Why stick a dual core processor and a 350 dollar GPU in a bargain basement mobo? 3) You might attribute your hitching to your lack of a hard drive. Those CD read times...

You'll have to give a better example than BF2...that's one of the most memory-hungry games to date, and everyone with <2gb RAM who tries high texture settings gets hitching, no matter what their GPU. People aren't trying to disprove you, but I'm chiming in as another 6800GT + NF chipset owner...

Quake 4 doesnt need more than 1 gig of RAM and 256MB of video memory

Not surprised. D3 didn't need it, why would Q4? Only BF2 by those wonderkids at EA really needs 2GB...go figure.

7800GTX 512MB Coming out!!!!

I wouldn't put so much faith in demo numbers...FEAR illustrated quite clearly how little beta numbers have in common with the final product's performance. More pipes (on same architecture) is definitely better than extra VRAM according to pretty much every scenario in gaming today.

ATI vs. NVIDIA Video Quality

Both companies have good IQ, with the nod going to ATi overall. If I were buying and all other things were equal, I'd go ATi...but since all those others things are rarely equal, it usually isn't the determining factor. Just get whichever card has the best price/performance in your budget.

I'm sorry, that was unclear; I simply wouldn't put much stock into either company not having full compliance to the exact standard, as any developer will have to work around the limitations of a card as they find them. The only point in this is to show flaws in either side's marketing...

Didn't see another thread (in Video at least) concerning this, so here you go. I honestly expected a little better lead from the x1800XT considering the beta results, but it looks as if the GTX really hadn't had any optimizations at all. Either way, all of them get pretty beat up at 16x12...

Not to jump on Rollo's bandwagon, but I really got the feeling you have a lopsided poll comparing the cheapest x1800XL to a mid-cost GT and then leaving out the rebate, and plus there are much better deals out there. Just a suggestion; don't sway it in favor of one card by making the cost...

So it seems ATI really has the upper hand in AA implementation and quality with the x1800s...
