get a gainward golden sample 6800 GT and new PS. the gainward is a bit pricey but warrantied to ultra speeds so you can get a ultra (OCed GT as fast as an XT) and a new PS for less than an XT or Ultra

Should I keep the x800 pro or sell it and get a 9800 pro considering my cpu?

no, wait till you can afford an A64 and you will be on par. No sense in losing money over the x800 pro since you never unleashed its potential anyhow

I've heard some good comments on arrow cables (around $15-$20) but you may want to query the manufacturer of your plasma tv/display for best compatibility

Ah, got my words mixed up! A DVI cable would be the cheaper option in my opinion. They have $8 DVI cables at pricewatch and $28 Philips DVI cables at Wal-mart if you are looking for brand name/local availability. However the adapter you are referring to here works with an 8500 which would be...

Cheap card with component output

Finding a BBA 9600 is going to be very difficult because ATI has stopped manufacturing these cards I think. Of course the 3rd party manufacturers comp. out should work fine. Also you can get the card much cheaper if all you want is a card with component out on it. The cheapest built by ATI...

having a power cord wouldn't be bad, but I wouldn't want either. Maybe they could make one with battery/cord available. I've wondered why these haven't become introduced/popular lately esp. with new innovations in the sound department getting more and more rare these days.

Best HL2 upgrade for an AMD XP 2400+

How can I tell what variation of X800 card I have???

What kind of rig is this card in? It may be cpu limited. Download RivaTuner or Everest for more info on your boards bios readout ps the 3dmark comment seems about right :laugh:

Overclocking Athlon 2500+ Mobile

Start out at stock voltage and slowly increase your multiplier and checking your temps at full load. If you start to notice instability while temps remain low, then raise voltage a step. If you find your temps getting too hot, then you are at your cooling limit.

Crucial gives a 30 day time period for refund, then exchange after that. I agree with snowman about failure of hardware. I've been running on a refurbed WD 100GB hard drive thats been constantly run and moved around (switched in/out of cases) and it's still treating me well. I think if you go...

I agree, the "newegg" ritek media worked flawlessly on my burner but what about this Ridata stuff, is that Ritek's cheaper media, is it worth trying to save a few bucks? I've never heard of Taiyo Yuden before but it's burns looks good, I think I'll look into that, it's a much better deal...

Compatible dvd-r for nec?

I've got an NEC 2500A drive I purchased near the beginning of this year and I've only burnt a handful of discs so far. I got 5 free newegg (Ritek G04 -R) discs and they burnt rather well. I also bought several compusa (really optorite I think) brand discs and none of them would read/playback...

Yes, the first two are crap and even the last one is detrimented by only having 4 pipes. If it were a $120 or less card I might say go for it, but I wouldn't pay $140 or more for it right now

OC'ing Athlon, where do I need help?

I have the same mobo he does and I was just about to suggest that. BTW if you are using stock cooling on your CPU, that's probably why you are hitting your limit. I can only get about 200 stable on my 2500+ but that's with a TT Volcano 12+.

Max of 60FPS on any game

I have an LCD and had the same problem when I got my 9800, didn't have the problem with my old gf2 ti. Basically your LCD should be set to 60hz and Vsync set to "Always On" or "Wait for vertical refresh" or something like that. Enabling this option forces the monitor and the card to display...

I'm with Avalon and Prayfordeath on this one, the 9800 SE is the better deal out of the two you picked, but there are better deals out there than either. I wouldn't buy one of these right now for $144. I'd go with the 5800NU for $109 or maybe save an extra 20-30 bucks and get a 9800 pro for...

If you can stretch a bit to $180 a new 9800 pro here at outpost.com is definitely the way to go or if you can't a used 9700 pro off ebay or For Sale/Trade forum here on Anandtech for $125 - $135 is also a great deal, just be careful who you buy from. Welcome to Anandtech Forum :)

All of you who are downing the 9800SE, remember that it wasn't ever meant to be an extremely fast top of the line card. It's price range puts the card in the 9600 pro ->9600 XT category which is where it usually stands in benchmarks. The problem with justifying it's cost in the current market...
