  1. Delidded my i7-3770K, loaded temperatures drop by 20°C at 4.7GHz

And the update, if anybody still cares about this :p I know the 3570k is old news, but I assume the same lesson could be applied to, say, the 4690k. Results: After lapping IHS and HSF base down to the copper and using Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra in all areas of contact: (10/2/2012) Ambient...
  2. Delidded my i7-3770K, loaded temperatures drop by 20°C at 4.7GHz

I'm going to be updating this again, after a long, long delay. Hopefully I'll get to it tonight or tomorrow night. If my gut instincts are right, it'll show that the CL Liquid Pro has remained stable for over two years. I have the same case, motherboard, HS, fans, and so forth- so the only...
  3. Can't all panel types do 120Hz input?

If you prefer wider color gamut because you like oversaturation, then that's your prerogative. To each his own. Just know that for those that want to see accurate (for web) color that sRGB gamut is what they need. Wider gamut (and the oversaturation that comes along with it when viewing sRGB...
  4. Can't all panel types do 120Hz input?

This. They're only getting harder to come by, unless somebody makes a surprise move and mass-produces some.
  5. Can't all panel types do 120Hz input?

why do you want a wider gamut? do you frequently process for print output? most peoples' uses benefit from sRGB gamut coverage, which i believe is what the tempest covers. also, no monitor has "0" processing lag. some minimize it well, but none are perfect. i don't notice any input lag with...
  6. Can't all panel types do 120Hz input?

have you seen a 120hz IPS panel for yourself? the reason i ask is because i've seen a 144hz Asus TN and my IPS at 120Hz has a very similar feel. i don't notice any of this "colors not fully changing" thing that you're talking about. the only way the asus feels superior in terms of motion blur...
  7. Can't all panel types do 120Hz input?

then why does a 120hz ips panel have a noticeable, positive difference in gaming compared to running it at 60hz? i won't pretend to understand how the panel technology works, because i don't. however, i've seen the difference first hand.
  8. Can't all panel types do 120Hz input?

i've never noticed the issue. i play 120fps capped 120hz in borderlands2. the color looks right, and it looks a LOT smoother than it did at 120fps and 60hz.
  9. 6GB of VRAM Finally Used!

His money, his issue. For all you know he could give more to charity in a week than you do in a year. My point is that you don't know... so there's no point in whining about how he spends his money since it's his money to spend. Last I checked, people work for Nvidia, and him spending...
  10. Can't all panel types do 120Hz input?

Have you looked at a 120Hz IPS panel yourself, BrightCandle?
  11. Coil whine... sigh 670

Just keep sending them back until you get one that doesn't whine. If that never happens, then maybe that particular card isn't for you since you're sensitive to it. I disagree with those saying that coil whine isn't a defect- if I buy an expensive electronic device I expect it to be engineered...
  12. New tweaks for ASUS/BENQ/Samsung 120 Hz! (Zero LCD motion blur; looks like CRT)

They can all OC, but the OC is not guaranteed to reach 120Hz. I got them back when they were only $440... they're more expensive now, not to mention sold out. I've used TN panels before. The color doesn't bother me at all for gaming. For color critical work I'll continue to use my IPS...
  13. New tweaks for ASUS/BENQ/Samsung 120 Hz! (Zero LCD motion blur; looks like CRT)

Thank you for sharing all of this information Mark. I think I know my next purchase now... a LightBoost capable LCD. The amount of data and explanations given in this thread have convinced me. I've been trying to mimic the "smooth as glass" experience I had playing CoD on a CRT at 250fps and...
  14. PCPer on Crossfire problems in the Titan review

you're right. i didn't, so that's my fault. i meant for it to be inferred that it's a constant stream with as little delay as possible. it absolutely can be compared. you said motion sickness is due to mismatching of stimuli. that's true. you also said the brain/our eyes cannot resolve a...
  15. PCPer on Crossfire problems in the Titan review

and it's also not the situation i presented. i said 1/220 and with the images repeating, so as to not allow a "reset." i agree that reaction speed is about 200ms. i don't agree that the resolution of determining if two stimuli are simultaneous is equal to that. neither does john carmack...
  16. PCPer on Crossfire problems in the Titan review

i'm not disagreeing with the science, but rather your interpretation of it. a perfectly pulsating light is very different from a dynamic image. while we might not be able to tell the difference between a light pulsating at 60Hz and one pulsating at 70Hz, it's still possible to see, and...
  17. New tweaks for ASUS/BENQ/Samsung 120 Hz! (Zero LCD motion blur; looks like CRT)

is this possible with the overclocked 120hz 1440p panels? i assume not :(
  18. PCPer on Crossfire problems in the Titan review

since when are reaction time and ability to observe the same thing? a 100ms latency is easily observable, and not just "indirectly because of missing something after clicking on it." many fps gamers can easily tell the difference between a refresh rate of 60hz and 120hz, and can tell the...
  19. PCPer on Crossfire problems in the Titan review

“The cure for a fallacious argument is a better argument, not the suppression of ideas.” instead of just saying he's wrong over and over again, please do us all a favor and explain why your theory is right. if you can't, or won't even attempt it, then there's no point in telling him to stop...
  20. Crysis 3 CPU performance test

AMD's finally competitive in a game at the high-end. It's been a while.
  21. New BIOS, stability issues P8Z77-WS & i7-3770

It won't go to 42 or 43 even with the new BIOS and when BCLK is set to 100?
  22. New BIOS, stability issues P8Z77-WS & i7-3770

    107 bclk is very high.
  23. Why wont my CPU voltage/multiplier drop?

Unplug the PC, pull the battery from the motherboard, and reset the CMOS. Let it sit for a while, put the battery back in, and put the CMOS back to normal. Sometimes CMOS is stubborn.
  24. Hector Ruiz's book

Exactly. And like you said, he'll still keep growing his bank account because people allow it.
  25. Just bought some NT H1

In the past, with ASC I found myself having to remount once every year or so, sometimes more often, for the same reason. I haven't been using the newer ASC2 long enough to see if it's as susceptible to pumping out. So far, performance seems similar (i.e. good for the price) to the original...
  26. [Tom's Hardware] CPU bottlenecking/frame latency benchmarks

Thank you. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when people claim that with a 60Hz LCD you can't tell a difference once you're beyond 60FPS. The same goes with going past 120FPS on a 120Hz LCD. There IS a difference. Anybody who's played a competitive FPS on the Q3 engine knows that even when...
  27. Win 8 misinterprets CPU overclock, any actual ramifications?

From how I understand it, Turbo is a matter of disabling inactive cores by using power gates. The CPU still uses a single power plane. I don't think the cores can have the clockspeed and voltage individually controlled.
  28. 3770K De-lidded and lapped With Liquid Pro - Awesome results.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Permatex-U...Maker/16777009 I've used this one a few different CPUs, always with good results. A lot of adhesives have acids in them, but this is a low-corrosion adhesive. I got a tube of it for $4 or so at Meijer.
  29. i5-3570k voltage at 4.7GHz

That seems very good for a 3570k. I've seen a bunch of 3770k's hit that speed at that voltage or lower, but very rarely a 3570k. Mine is stable at 4.7Ghz around that voltage, but only after delidding and lapping the IHS and HSF base. I see that you said yours is straight out of the box. Very...
  30. I am ready to be taught everything you all know about overclocking

Honestly, I'd get something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148663 Cheapish, decent latencies, low voltage, and low profile. I bet you won't notice a difference in performance regardless of what you get. You just want something that works, and works consistently.
  31. I am ready to be taught everything you all know about overclocking

The low voltage Samsung kit is grossly underspecced. I've seen people run it as high as 2800Mhz. Personally, I run mine at 8-8-8 1.35v... I got it mainly because I wanted the ultra-low profile. In the grand scheme of things, the memory speed and latency matters so little unless you're using...
  32. Monitoring VTT Software

What motherboard and CPU do you have?
  33. I am ready to be taught everything you all know about overclocking

Wow, it appears memory has seriously gone up in price. I got my Samsung 1.35v 2x4GB kit for $37.50 in just October. $125 for memory would be a tough pill for me to swallow. I'm out of touch with RAM prices, apparently.
  34. Mobile Haswell achieves all day battery life - beginning of the end for ARM?

Nothing in your reply has anything to do with what I said. I was commenting on the "convergence" of ultrabooks and tablets, nothing more and nothing less, and certainly nothing to do with whether tablets are a "fad" or not. They are, indeed, becoming more similar with each respective...
  35. Mobile Haswell achieves all day battery life - beginning of the end for ARM?

While I agree with the direction, I don't think it will happen "by 2014." That's less than a year, and there's a huge discrepancy in many aspects between ultrabooks and tablets.
  36. 3770K De-lidded and lapped With Liquid Pro - Awesome results.

Comparing the adhesion of an IHS onto a CPU after delidding to taking up jogging after beginning to smoke is beyond a stretch. The act of smoking is in and of itself, unhealthy. Delidding a CPU is only "unhealthy" for the CPU if done improperly, until otherwise can be proven. As somebody else...
  37. Significant upgrade on a budget?

Ahh, that's too bad. There was still a huge stack of them in stock at the one by me. I already had a 3570k but wanted to upgrade my motherboard... so it was a great excuse for me.
  38. 3770K De-lidded and lapped With Liquid Pro - Awesome results.

    20-30C is little difference
