I have been checking out some of the other linux boards I check out everyonce in awhile. This is a common issue with MDK 10, hopefully this can be fixed soon.
I just recently had a party at our home and we don't wear shoes in that house either. When people see the shoes piled up, they will understand. If they respect you and your home they will do it. I don't find it rude one bit, but then again I take my shoes off. :D
Here is another way of doing it. Backup registry before attempting change.
Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Name: SFCDisable
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value: FFFFFF9D

There is this link as well Disable Windows File Protection (Windows 2000/XP)
This may sound weird, but this happened to me once. The machine that is 'hosting' the printer ... is the guest account disabled? If so enable it and try again. Just to see :)
Seems your BIOS boot sequence is not in the order it should be. 2nd CDROM should be fine though, just so its booting up. Not sure if Mandrake 10 is able to see usb keyboard and mouse. You can temporarily use ps2 just to get it installed, then configure it for USB hardware.
I would remove the printer from both machines, and reboot. Setup the printer on the host with a generic driver in the Windows OS if possible, and then add it to the other computer. Maybe a generic epson driver will fix the problem. This is a pretty strange problem.
