the new version of the md-120/130 software lets you only record the single channel, not the subchannel. This will help a little.
The easiest thing to do is to hit he "pause" button on commercials (not the stop button). It cuts almost 20 min out of the hour.
On mine, 15 min = 2GB so 30...
It's way better in hi-definition off the antenna.
I'm using the MIT mdp-120 and saving the .ts files to dvd. files are kind of big. Takes a couple of dvd's per episode, but the quality is nice.
can't wait for the new season.

I have the older 120 version of this card. it works well since the addition of the time-shifting software. You need a good antenna...

I had this same problem.... There's a really thin plastic film around the "laser" port
I removed it with my fingernail and it works just fine now

It's alot bigger than it looks on the picture... the usb connector is a mini one.
It is powered from the usb slot... the center glows blue when in use.
It's about 3 inches diameter.

If you want a good hdtv card, I have had pretty good luck with the MIT MD-120
The software's a little buggy, but it works ok. The hardware output is fantastic to look at.
and it's got a dvi-d daughtercard you can get.
check out avsforums... they've got some long threads about it.
It does work ok, but the motor gets hot after about 5 baskets full and shuts off....
Let it cool off and it works again.
It needs a fan on the motor (or some water cooling).

Power ground is green
Video + (composite) is yellow
Video - (composite) is brown
Right audio -- red
Left audio -- white
Ground audio -- black
They're all labeled on the circuit board as V+, V-, Rin, Lin...
I was the one who "gutted" the controller..
I've got it all soldered together now.
Works like a champ. It's really small, but the color quality is good, and the dials make it easy to adjust on the fly.
There are 7 wires between the controller and the video screen.

Just got the Hip Screenpad for $20 at Compusa. The PS model.
Gutted it and hooked up composite in and 12V.... (they're labeled on the circuit board)
really cheap 2.5 lcd with composite in and stereo audio (and headphone).
