The PC1066 RDRAM in my Dell 8250 is tested faulty (memtest) now. Instead of dragging myself deeper into the RDRAM thing, I decide to replace the case and the motherboard to use cheaper DDR memory. Anyone have suggestions for a good case and motherboard for the P4 2.4gHz CPU in Dell 8250? Is...

Using wireless router as access point

Any programs out there that can check the cycle count for laptop batteries

INot sure about others, but IBM's battery maximizer has the cycle count.

LCD vs CRT

I don't play a lot games, most time work on documents so LCD is clearly my choice. As a matter of fact I have a dual-LCD setup on my small desk and still have a lot room for books, food, drink, and etc.

how noisy are the new 7200rpm notebook drives?

you can definitely hear the spin, but personally I'm fine with it. Not much worse than a 5400 rpm.

Laptop hard drive recommendations?

I have a 60gb 7200 rpm drive and so far I'm happy. It's a little noisy at night but I can live with that (at least better than my desktop:).

Laptop Hard Drive Question

batteries usually lose about half of their life after one year. Also, frequently charging a battery is probably not a good idea. I usually keep my laptop on external power (it will not charge thebattery if the power is >95%). When unplugged, I let it run down to <10% and recharge it to full.

PLEASE HELP - URGENT: Which Display Resolution on Dell 600M?

my personal choice would be the SXGA+. You can always choose a larger font, but could never go 1400x1050 with an XGA. The font does look very small (very sharp, though). I use 150% when writing in MS Word. warranty-wise, it's a tough choice. My previous laptop (1 year warranty) has never broken...

I can't decide on a new notebook...

Performance-wise, X40 is at the bottom. I'll go with a T42p (2379DYU). P-M 745 1.8G (2 mb cache), 15" Flexview screen, 128mg ATI video card, 512 MB ram, 80G 5400 rpm HDD, and a DVD recorder.

Bluetooth mouse for the laptop (bluetooth ready)

Want to get a bluetooth mouse for my thinkpad. A quick search on this board found some negative feedbacks on both the Microsoft IntelliMouse Bluetooth and Logitech MX900. Anybody had good experience with one? I prefer small in size and with at least 4 buttons and a wheel. Thanks.

Do I need a 2nd battery for my future laptop (T42)?

If you play the power saving right, a battery can last you a whole day. Most time it runs at <500 mHz clock speed. As far as the price, check your school and see if there is an education discount with IBM.

quickie: i have 233mhz, go win95, 98, or NT?

I had NT4 on my P233/144 MB/3G laptop before and it was solid (except USB didn't work). However 32 MB RAM is far from enough for NT4.

I got it when there was a $100 rebate (~$30 final cost). Rebate came pretty quick too (about 5 weeks). It's Ok for second monitor, but definitely not a good choice for primary use.
