Question AMD Ryzen 5000 - AVAILABILITY

I've read the ShopBLT's pre-orders number is actually Ingram Micro's pre-orders number for multiple etailers including ShopBLT. Also, isn't this just another ShopBLT sliding ETA window? Usually the ETA gets pushed back a few days before. Does anyone have different info.? Don't mean to sound...

Question 'Ampere'/Next-gen gaming uarch speculation thread

Apologies, the first down vote was a mistake and was removed. I must have accidentally clicked on the down arrow while scrolling through the thread. The second down vote is intentional for overreacting to a meaningless mistake and pinging me (a down vote on an internet forum, the horror, lol).

RIP Gamers, not even the 1080 Ti will save you now.

I think re-sale value of the GPU(s) is a big deal for miners, although if the average miner has 10 or so GPU(s) per mining rig, I don't see the re-sale market (e.g., a non-miner doesn't want 10 used GPU(s) for their computer).

RIP Gamers, not even the 1080 Ti will save you now.

Interesting perspective, sorry to read about your troubles. Are you in a position to provide technical support for miners, especially the newer ones rushing in? I read a post today where someone saw a guy at Microcenter buy 10 video cards (4 GTX 1060s, 3 GT1070s, 2 GTX1070Tis and a GTX1080)...

RIP Gamers, not even the 1080 Ti will save you now.

And all those shiny new cards equate to only one new consumer of AAA games at most (but probably an existing consumer so net zero). That makes me very concerned about the economics of AAA PC games.

midrange htpc card: gtx 960 or wait for r9 370?

Although I think the 960 is currently a bit too expensive and is likely to see price reductions soon, I agree with the tenor of your argument. I can't believe some are actually arguing the 960's noise and thermals are better than you need and the hardware video codec is too powerful. When the...

midrange htpc card: gtx 960 or wait for r9 370?

Yep, I just ordered one of those because I need it now. I also need low heat and noise for a mini-ITX build, but darn, I feel ripped buying it for $240. Definitely wait if you can.

Will Windows 10 still have windows media center support?

This is so disappointing. I've had a WMC/Ceton/Cable Card media server setup for about 3 years now streaming television to various PC(s) and laptops (and one Xbox 360) connected to my network. I shouldn't be surprised that it all turned out to be a technological dead-end and that I won't be...

GTX 970 and GTX 980 is officially launched

Well good on you! That means the 980/970 pricing isn't "jacked" for a consumer using a 780 after all.

GTX 970 and GTX 980 is officially launched

Are you thinking about going SLI with a second, deeply discounted new or used 780? In view of the 970 release, a fairly priced, used 780 should be about $225 or so (maybe less). Could be a very cost-effective upgrade (if you don't mind dual-GPU(s)).

GTX 970 and GTX 980 is officially launched

Looks like Nvidia's A-team in sales and marketing is working this launch, plus, as others have mentioned, Nvidia must be anticipating that the GPU(s) won't be supply-limited at this price. Congrats to everyone in the market for a significant GPU upgrade at this time! Good times.

X99 Boards - Whats on your wish list?

Did anyone return a working ASRock X99 Extreme 4 to the Virginia Microcenter? I just picked it up for $140 open-box (includes the $40 cpu bundle discount). Probably a small world of informed enthusiasts who have bought X99 from MC to date, so I thought I would ask. Just curious about its...

    Xeon L5639 Overclocking on X58

CPU-z reports a 20x multiplier for my L5639/Bloodrage combination at FSB 200 as well. My board is X58 (not X58A). The last bios for this board added Gulftown support. Perhaps these old bioses wants to see a 980X and see enough similarity in the L5639 to boot up and try a 980X-type multi...

    Xeon L5639 Overclocking on X58

Was bank 0 identified as defective before you bought the board? I ask because bank 0 on my board (Foxconn Bloodrage) doesn't work when I installed a L5639. However, slot 0 works when I take the L5639 out and put my old 920 in. I'm curious whether the bank 0 problem is a slight incompatibility...

What idle voltages are people seeing with speed step enabled? The low I'm seeing is 0.992 V. Yes, it is at a 12x multiplier, but still...0.992 V? One of the reasons I retired my x58 board (before this upgrade) was it had no under-volting capability, so I appreciate this idle voltage...

    Xeon L5639 Overclocking on X58

Thanks for the tip, I do have two channels working, not just one. I relaxed the timings and downclocked the frequencies in my original 3x2 GB triple channel RAM. So much that it was slower than the 2x4 GB I replaced it with. At that point I just wanted to get the original RAM out of there...

Great! I was getting good result manually setting the memory too. Also, "Load Optimized Default" (?) is also critical if you start noticing even the slightest change causes a non-boot. I just have 6 GB, but I increased VTT anyway early on hoping it wasn't a hardware problem. I think I...

I was using G40 beta (thought I had P11 installed, it has been a while since I've worked with this board). Anyway, I updated to P11 and still had memory missing. Thanks for passing this along. I just got the chip and put it in. I turned off all the CPU features like speedstep that might cause a problem if there's a microcode incompatibility. I can boot into FSB 180 manually adjusting the voltage up just +50 mV. I'm actually experiencing a different...

    Xeon L5639 Overclocking on X58

Still waiting on my chip. My Bloodrage was stable at 223 (920 at 19x). I could push it to 225 stable on high voltages and it would boot and load windows at 227 (but not much else). It will be interesting to see what it does with the L5639. I'll report back. Nice looking board BTW.

Cheaper Intel 6C/12T CPU coming? Core i7-3910K spotted

Yes, I agree, looking over the BIOS history Gulftown support actually came with the P10 BIOS. I remember the quantum force bios guy seemed like a real enthusiast. I'm optimistic it will boot and form the basis for a decent family desktop. If not, I wanted to build a new server anyway. Looks...

Nvidia`s Titan outsold GTX 690 in just three months after release

Translation for those who don't understand PR flack speak: We're managing to sell the small number of Titans we produce, but there no huge demand for them (they can be easily bought at MSRP). Sales of the GTX 690 have been so bad that our limited supply of Titans outsold it.

Titan is widely available here in the US from top retailers, but it is now accepted truth that Titan can't meet demand, so don't bother with the real story. There is also a glut on eBay. That's interesting because the eBay speculators made up part of the initial demand, so even initial...

The GTX 780, 770, 760 ti Thread *First review leaked $700+?*

Yes, but only if the contracting demand for high-end, consumer desktop GPU(s) is epochal or the supply is limited. Otherwise pricing below demand can increase demand (move the curve) thus ameliorating a contracting market and increasing profits. If a contracting market can't be reversed or...

A reminder of how good we really have it

I remember interning at a corporate data center (IBM mainframes) and thinking with amazement how the whole, air-conditioned warehouse of IBM and Amdahl drive cabinets contained 20 GB of storage. This was the time period when I had an 8088 XT at home with a 20 MB hard drive.

GeForce Titan coming end of February

For someone who said price should not be the focus, you keep banging this drum. You are the one who should take Econ 101. The price set in a supply-constrained market has little to do with value determined in a normal market where supply can match demand and where market share can be gained by...
