    It's hard to say. You may pay more for the 1GB DIMM, and typically they don't have the best timings, but that's not an issue really for an A64. If you plan on upgrading past 1GB, I guess it's better to have a slot left open, otherwise, 2 512's is probably cheaper and better.

    I wouldn't bother with 939. If you upgrade in the future you will almost certainly want a new board to go with your new CPU. The 3400+ should be fine. The rest looks good.

    You'll need to connect the power switch on the front of the case, and use it to turn the PC on. The switch on the PSU only gives you power to the board, it's the front switch that actually tells the mobo to boot.

    You aren't running dual channel, as the A64 on Socket 754 is a single channel system. Doesn't matter that you're running 2 DIMMS, it's still single channel. If you're getting errors on one of your DIMMS while running it at it's rated speed and timings, return it.

    Actually, the Opteron 250 is cheaper than the FX-53 if I'm not mistaken. The only differences are the FX is multiplier unlocked and the Opteron has an additional HT link to support dual procs.
