Macbook Air not recognizing any external HDs

WD drives, two different kinds. Not enclosures.

Macbook Air not recognizing any external HDs

Cannot empty, no. I'd prefer to fix the issue on the machine itself, anyway, as it is clearly the problem.

Macbook Air not recognizing any external HDs

3 drives, sorry, it's a typo. Hell, I actually have *five* external HDs, none of them work reliably on the air. I've only tested 3 of them more extensively. >you have a Mac Mini, and a MacBook Air, and your wife has a MacBook Pro Yes. Also have two PCs, both of which handle the externals...

Macbook Air not recognizing any external HDs

2 completely different drives, yes, and I've tried both USB ports. The drives work occasionally, probably less than 10% though. I basically have to just keep plugging them in and cross my fingers.

Macbook Air not recognizing any external HDs

They show up on my mac mini, but not my wife's MBP. Mini is on 10.7, MBP is on 10.6. O_o. It's Fat32

Macbook Air not recognizing any external HDs

Doesn't show up in Disk Utility. Also just restarted my system.

Macbook Air not recognizing any external HDs

I've got 3 different external HDs I've tested on this thing and 9 times out of 10 it simply won't show the drive when its plugged in. The drives work perfectly on two other systems tested. Also, the Air seems to have no trouble with my card reader; it's only external HDs. Any ideas what could be...

W7 losing mouse responsiveness after idle

OK, here is a bit of a strange update. When I wrote this post a few hours ago, I checked the computer to make sure the behavior was still happening, and it was. However, I went back to the computer a couple hours later to do some work, ready to reboot it—and suddenly the mouse was working...

W7 losing mouse responsiveness after idle

I've got an interesting (and extremely frustrating) problem that has popped up in the past couple weeks with Win7 x64. When I return to the system after not using it for a couple days, the mouse is totally unresponsive. Plugging in a different mouse (even your most basic corded mouse) makes no...

    Quick PSU 12v/mobo compat. question

I just picked up an 1155 mobo for my new i5. I'm using an oldish PSU, a Corsair 450w ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139003 ). The mobo has an 8-pin 12V socket which in the manual is labeled ATX 12v v1 The PSU is, apparently ATX 12v v2.2, and has two 4-pin 12v connectors...

Mac mini locking up after a long idle time

Alright, so despite removing LCC entirely, the system locked up again some time last night. dmesg no longer has the Logitech errors, just a bunch of normal looking output. At this point I am at a complete loss. Anyone have any other ideas? What kind of support (or lack thereof) can I expect...

The main KB is wired and it stops responding as well. I just get a grey screen.

Alright well I've installed Steermouse drivers and uninstalled LCC, we'll see what happens. Thanks for the help.

Mac mini locking up after a long idle time

I just ran a disk check and it was ok. I do leave the disk spinning, but heat problems seem unlikely given that it's locking up during periods of inactivity, whereas when I'm doing much more intensive tasks when working on the machine it's never had any problems. Regardless, I'll have it put the...

Mac mini locking up after a long idle time

I've had a mac mini for about 5 months, during most of which it was fine. However, this past month I hooked it up to my TV as an entertainment center, via HDMI—I swap the cable depending on whether I am working (monitor) or relaxing (tv). I also bought a second wireless keyboard/mouse...

    What's my bottleneck in Lightroom?

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm gonna get the proc. FWIW, I noticed that my catalog (main database file) was sitting on my oldest, slowest hard-drive for some reason; I've moved it over to the newest and I've actually noticed a decent speed gain with certain stuff already.

    What's my bottleneck in Lightroom?

I've got a 9800GT, which has been fine running pretty much all new games at 1920x1200, so I don't think it's that, but I could be wrong. I don't hear a fan speedup but then I can't hear my fan at all even maxed out, my system is super-quiet :)

    What's my bottleneck in Lightroom?

What do you mean? As in does it spike when I am doing regular Lightroom stuff? The answer to that is yes.

    What's my bottleneck in Lightroom?

Are you sure about the ram thing? LR is only taking up 500mb max and leaving nearly 2GB free when nothing else is running but Firefox, and as mentioned, the CPU maxes out when I start editing. The HD is a Samsung 2504 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152025 ) SATA 8mb 3gbps...

    What's my bottleneck in Lightroom?

Note that as I move sliders around on zoom in on pictures in LR my CPU usage spikes and often maxes out, so I'd wager it's safe to assume that the proc is the biggest bottleneck right now, but I'd love for people that know more than me to confirm that this would be the best move right now over...

    What's my bottleneck in Lightroom?

I've got an C2D E8400 and Windows XP 32 with 4GB (so, 3GB) ram, and a regular ol' harddrive. I've just upgraded from an 8mp to an 18mp camera, and Lightroom performance with the new, huge raw files has slowed considerably. What is my bottleneck? I was thinking of grabbing a C2Q 9400 which looks...

task to restart process once a week?

I want to have a script run once a week on my server to stop a process (Winamp Orb, which has massive memory leaks) and then restart it. I figure I'll put a batch file in scheduled tasks, that much is fine. What would I put in the batch file though? Is it possible to actually exit the...

Eee Box vs Eee PC for headless server at home

The answer is, no, it's not exactly EASY to install XP pro on the thing, but it is certainly possible, there are just a lot of wacky steps involved. But it can certainly be done from a thumb drive, mine is humming away on the wall right now. What a lovely little box this thing.

    HIS 4850 blue-screening Vista

Perhaps a final update here, if anyone is interested. I just got the 9800 today, plugged it in, and same ol' crap. Wasn't blue-screening this time, but was freezing during the Windows loading sequence every time without fail. So, I tried my last possible step before returning the 9800 and just...

Eee Box vs Eee PC for headless server at home

I was just looking at an EEE box as well for this exact same reason, then I found this thread. Is it easy to install XP pro on so I can remote desktop to it? I also want to make it into an svn server, using dyndns.com to get a dns to point to a dynamic IP. Screw it on the wall right next to the...

Funboy, would you please, please just leave me alone. You have been harassing me in this thread and PMs for days and it is really getting old. Sorry that I don't want to pay you $20 to send me a card I will be getting from Newegg RMA and even get $10 back from it.

    HIS 4850 blue-screening Vista

Yep, different IRQ. It would work on and off on the other installs too. Sometimes it would boot, sometimes it wouldn't. Sometimes it would get past the windows loading bar but then would just be black and stay black and I needed to hard reset. It booted into safe mode perfectly 100% of the time...

I give up, I'm installing XP. Same kind of shit was happening when installed the 9.1s up front. It worked a couple times, and then after never really worked again. I've tried everything I can think of. If XP doesn't work, then I don't know, maybe it is the PSU, but I doubt it, and I have a...

Oh and I'm going to check for an IRQ conflict, though I only have a single PCI card in so I'm too hopeful on that. I also may take a shot with this one I read from another similar post: (3) After install, reboot the system immediately into SAFE MODE. (4) From SAFE MODE, go to administrative...
