Going for the gold

Just out of curiosity, did you have any issues with your set up? Like hard crashes in Direct X 9 games? I have a similar set up and my system is totally fubar on WoW and FarCry (but not Doom 3).

I don't think heat is an issue, I've checked all my temps. When I had ATI Tray it idles at like 48 degrees Celsius and hovered around 55 degrees under load. Doom III also runs perfectly for me (OpenGL game)

Here's the run down of games that don't work: FarCry when water quality set to anything but Low, always crashes within minutes / seconds of gameplay. If water's set to low, crashes about 15 minutes into play. World of Warcraft within minutes of play. Tried windowed mode with same results...

Video Crash in every game

Update: Super Pi worked, took ~50 minutes total. It seems like OpenGL games work fine. (I tried Doom III - 2 timedemo demo1 runs and about 5 minutes in game, Natural Selection without AA worked without crashing for the half hour I played, didn't try it with AA)

The reset button works fine, not the power. This is my first time building and I have too many wires zig zagging across it to even TRY and replace the motherboard lol. I'll look at that screwdriver thing, thanks.

"Official" DFI nF4 Ultra-D / SLI-DR Thread

I have a problem with my DFI LanParty UT nf4 Ultra-D, it might be the case, but, I can't power on the motherboard with the case power button, only with the EZ Touch Switch. My case reset button works fine, and I have the power wires hooked up correctly (I've tried incorrectly too, to no avail)...

Battlefield 2 Memory Usage *Results Updated*

There's a memory leak hotfix, does this fix any memory USAGE issues? or is the game just that much a memory hog? I just bought 2 gigs of memory with my new PC, I hope it didn't go to waste (although when I get an X2 some day it certainly won't be wasted :D)

is there any point to SLI?

What about driver controlled vertical sync? It's not a monitor issue as I've seen it on every monitor I've ever had, and it's not video card issue, it's an option, turn it on or off, but if SLI doesn't give you that option, then I don't see how you can claim it's the best image quality available...

is there any point to SLI?

If you run below 1600x1200, it probably won't be worth it. I play with vertical sync and I've heard that's a no-no with SLI. Just do a little reading up. 250$ is probably enough to satisfy your gaming needs with an X800 XL.

I didn't, I assume that since I bought a retail CPU and they say the motherboard is retail, I get the manufacturer warranty. Hopefully that applies to the RAM, as well.

I'm doing that combo thing, too, but mainly so I get the RAM tested (DFI is picky about RAM), newest BIOS to support my Venice core, and free Half-Life 2 :D Gettings stock cooler though :(

6600 GT or 9800 Pro would still be loads better than the X600 Pro, heck, even a X700 Pro would be (but I'd get a 6600 GT over that anyway)

mOeeOm, Exactly, although World of WarCraft struggled for me. Blizzard is amazing at optimizing their games, there was a problem everyone had in this crowded town causing everyone extreme load lag (Ironforge for those playing along), but one patch cleared it up almost completely for people...

If you want to run Battlefield 2, get at LEAST a 6800 vanilla or X800 vanilla. I'd say go with an X800. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102560 156$ shipped after MIR. It's 70$ more but you'll be SO glad you got it over the X600 Pro, I'm on a 2 year old 9500 pro myself...

gamecube on computer monitor through video card...help please

I used a Pelican VGA box to output to my LCD. The only real problem with it was the interlacing made stuff look shaky, but on a projector at a fair distance away, I don't think it'd be as bad a problem.

Will we ever see high res 17" LCD's?

OLED - Organic Light Emitting Diodes, the non-response time oriented flat panel "replacement". Reports I've seen put them at 1600x1200 for the 17" model, 2048x1536 for the 23(?)". Not certain on the size of the bigger one. No clue on availability dates, though. Sorry.

ATI Crossfire: almost 2X performance gain?

I've a question: Is there any reason Crossfire can't work on non-ATi chipsets? I'm planning on ordering nVidia SLI motherboard soon, but with an X800 XL, but I also plan on upgrading the video card in ~2 years time (my 9500 Pro is over 2 years, yeah, baby, yeah), but since I can't predict...

Psu for under $110

my roommate bought an X-Navigator, so overpriced. 5 LOUD fans. he kept it on all night... Yes, with those bright-ass headlight LEDs, which he would have left on if I didn't tell him to cover them up. Most annoying vegan/straight edge/liberal prick ever.

Cheapest AGP card to get me 1280x1024 in BF2

My 9500 Pro with all LOWEST settings runs 1280x1024 with 4xAA /16x AF just dandy. (I'm more or less CPU bound)

Your thoughts on Battlefield 2 GPU Performance Analysis AT review...

They added 6800 GT and X800 XL to the review, The short and skinny: X800 XL beats out 6800 GT only after 4x AA is enabled, but has problems rendering 2048x1536 resolution. Makes me decide to get an X800 XL next system. Thanks AT!

I can semi-read German, yay for me! EDIT: There's tons of benchmarks, at the top of the table you'll see drop-down menus with different settings and games and such. IT seems to get better boosts in farcry (with Transparency AA I'd bet it'd look fantastic), Half-Life 2 shows more...

How much do you think a 7800GT will cost?

I'd say no way would the mid-range aimed cards be 350$ Maybe 300, but I'm guessing a 12-16 pipe card that'd be 280$ for a 7600 GT (Think current X800 XL / 6800 GT prices), 12 pipe 7600 at 225$? If nVidia doesn't cut when R520 comes out (which I'm sure they will) they will probably have a big...
