**POLL** buy a dell or make your own computer, that is the question! :)

I'd guess it would be more than an extra $50 to do a home built as Dell get large volume discounts, and they only ship 1 or 2 boxes. Home built you miss the discount, and you'll get many more boxes. Also the software that comes on a Dell would cost much more if you bought if off the shelf...

Why the push towards serial?

Any one else remember paying over $150 for 4K of memory? I could get 1.5G for that today, not including inflation. Back in 82 I got a memory cartridge for a Commodore Vic20. What is the most you ever paid for memory, when and for what computer?

Technically speaking...why don't AMD cpu's use bandwidth like P4s?

I believe it is due to a larger on board cache. Cache misses are less frequent, and hence fewer memory requests are made.

Resistors undervolting fans...HELP!

Various PC cable limit lengths?

For the harddrive, use firewire, or SCSI. LVD SCSI will give you 12 meters (more than 36 feet) and HVD SCS will give you 25 meters (more than 75 feet). Not sure about firewire, but I'm sure you can look that one up. If you use EIDE, you will be stuck to just a few inches. I don't know how...

Nuclear Powered Car!

Cars all too often get involved in accidents. Expense of dealing with radioactive material. Weight of lead sheilding to keep driver and passengers from being 'cooked'. Perhaps eventualy ther will be nuclear powered cars, but I believe todays technology is too primitive.

How to get rid of BootMagic boot message?

fdisk /mbr will overwrite the master boot record, but as fdisk is a dos tool, it will put on a dos master boot record. You then won't be able to boot off that drive onto w2k or xp. Check out How to backup and restore a MBR But you'll need to fo this W2K recovery. fixmbr
