Passivvvvve!

many dell's use them and still today use passive for their new machines. They just opt for the fan on the case with a bezel to suck the heat off the heatsink. As long as you have good airflow you should be able to run them passive. A lot of servers run them :)

P4C800-E LAN & USB Problems

I have this board and I haven't had any of these problems. Could just be a bad mobo. I haven't loaded any drivers for the LAN or USB other than the standards and chipset drivers. Perhaps resetting the bios and drivers and starting over may help.

Trying to download some items from the "Critical Updates and Service Packs" section on the Windows Update page...

I had this problem awhile ago getting direct X 8 of all things installed. It kept quitting and giving me that error. I have no idea what I did to fix it but have seen this before.

winxp user profile trouble

First off you dont want to use the administrator account. Secondly you should have a back door incase something goes wrong. so... Log in as admin. Go to user Accounts and create a new account with admin rights and without a password. Log out....done. Once you create an account otehr than...

switching between LCD and CRT monitor

hahahaah, me too. I have my dual monitor computer, my wifes computer and a tv mounted on the wall for both of us to view. I spend most of my time in my computer room, even if I am just watching tv. I HAVE THE FAT TO PROVE IT...

DVI a big deal?

Exactly, how often do you buy monitors. So if you're spending a lot of money already, why not get the extra functionality now instead of desiring it later. The LCD's should last you years and having DVI now before it eventually becomes standard would be a good move.

Which is louder?

I am along the same line. I like having a fairly quiet pc, but is the decible level of the card going to sway you one way or another on a $400 purchase? That wouldnt seem logical from my point of view. If one is 10db louder, would you not buy it based on that? that's the only reason I got a bit...

HD size troubles

If you're all set and the computer see's all of the disk. Right-click My Computer and go to Manage, then disk management. It should show a portion of the disc unused. (unparition space i think). You should be able to create another partition from this space merely by right-clicking on the graphic.

perhaps you need to take a peek in your BIOS, and make sure your Aperature size is set to 256, and also your AGP is setup correctly.

It will be hard to get a good review of a mac on this site also. I'm not sure there are a whole lot hangin around here. I'm definitely a pc guy and an idiot when it comes to the details of a mac....sorry.

Hey guys, whats the max temp you guys are getting after OC'ing your GT's. I am just wondering what a safe harbor is for a temp. I am overclocking and wondering how high I should push it. 120c seems pretty dang hot for a threshold, since that's 258 degrees Fahrenheit!!

pc keeps restarting while gaming counter strike...

I don't think counter strike would heat up any rig built after 1998, but yeah sounds like you may wanna not OC and try it again.

i think if you run the display wizard you can choose what type of monitor. You have to make sure the S-Video is plugged in for it to be detected. If I remember I will check on this when I get ome tonight.

2 Hard Drives - Raid Card - Questions!

Just follow the manufactures directions for the jumper on the hardrive and set the large one to master or cable select. Put it on hte correct IDE port (closest to Mobo). load the OS on it and you're golden. WHen you load the os partition the large drive then. for the 15g, you can put it in...

You should be able to leave the computer on 24/7, its just that occasionally you may run into a snag if you leave it on for extended periods of time. I usually leave mine on for about 2-3 days...but I reboot for various things all the time. One thing about the bluescreen...it doesn't mean...

the only thing that could hurt speakers are bad power or distorted signal. Since you're not blasting the speakers, and they seem to be idle...you shouldn't have any problems leaving them on. Matter of fact, my Klipsch 2.1's dont have a ready accessible power switch, so they are supposed to be...

Salvaging documents on crashed drive.

if you have the software, first thing to try and do is either back it up (ghost etc) or try loading it up as slave and get stuff off....but if it's not being seen, you may just have a dead drive on your hands. I'm sure some other people on here may have some better utils....so I'll shutup now... ;)

That could have been numerous things. If it had been on for a week you could have done a lot of things to it. If you were to uninstall a program and choose no to reboot, then tinkered with the pc for awhile it could have done something upon reboot. I wouldn't sweat it much, that kind of thing...

Can't install SP1? Install half-finishes then asks to reboot?

did you archive the files when you started? you could try removing the sp1 patch and try it again also. If you don't have a legal key it could be quitting on you also.

dell 20" lcd fuzzy playback

what resolution is your LCD at? DVD is only same resolution as television so perhaps enlarging it so much will distort (fuzz) it.
