Can anyone tell why this 12gb RAM kit is so cheap?

Surely it's a pricing error, missing zero at the end? Kingston's US website has the same kit at $467.00. http://www.ec.kingston.com/eco...=KVR1333D3D4R9SK3/12GI

Pcper: Intel X25 G1 does not need TRIM

I don't think that's what the poster meant - although the wording could have been clearer. Nobody expects older cards to support new DirectX features. But did reviewers and users expect Intel to add TRIM via a new firmware? Absolutely. You see, users are not expecting Intel to improve...

Pcper: Intel X25 G1 does not need TRIM

It's certainly not me. You brought up Microsoft comparison, so I am adding facts. Windows XP SP2 was compiled with Microsoft's new VC++ 2005 optimizing compiler and had many performance fixes. This is true for other Microsoft products like SQL Server. XP SP2 came out almost 3 years after XP...

What's the coolest, lowest power cpu right now?

I recently built a file server using AMD Athlon X2 5050E. It's a 65nm, 45W chip, so not the most latest or economical, but it is surprisingly efficient and cheap to buy. The entire system idles at 38 watts - measured using a watt meter. With Prime 95 it can get upto 80 watts. It can be my file...

Pcper: Intel X25 G1 does not need TRIM

While your bet paid off, I think your Microsoft analogy is incorrect. Microsoft regularly release patches for performance issues. They even add features with their Service Packs, case in point Windows XP SP2. What do you think should happen if the gen 2 disks have a serious problem and Intel...

    Worst Graphics Card Purchases

I posted about this card a few pages back, although mine hated VIA chipset motherboards and worked for max 10 minutes in 3D games before locking up the whole PC. Bad times.

Do you guys download the suite or driver and CCC separately? The suite seems much smaller compared to the other two individual downloads.

Thanks for the heads up. This is one of the first tool I download and run on my new systems. I am sure the old versions had a validation option too. This new layout seems like a widescreen version. :)

The Inq: Intel Launching Cheaper 34 nm SSDs in Two Weeks Time

The AT article says model number remains the same. Or did you mean to say that Intel is honest because they are not changing the model number but making the disk faster and cheaper? I see plenty of companies doing that. The difference then becomes the release year or the product generation -...

The Inq: Intel Launching Cheaper 34 nm SSDs in Two Weeks Time

Interesting. I have a Dell Studio 1555 with the Intel X25-M and I don't notice any difference between cold start and hibernate startup. The hibernate shutdown is slightly slower but only by maybe 5-7 seconds. I have my laptop hibernate when the lid is closed, so I don't really notice the...

    Worst Graphics Card Purchases

I do vaguely remember seeing that error! Yes, both my systems were AMD Athlon XP CPU and Windows XP. One with VIA chipset motherboard and another with nforce2. Neither system was stable with the 9600 XT. I had another Nvidia AGP card at that time (6600 GT) and that card ran perfectly in both...

    Worst Graphics Card Purchases

Also the Nvidia 8600 GTS. Just a weakling of a card but it was my fault for not reading properly before purchasing. I thought GTS would be better than GT version. Oh, how wrong I was. :D Now I have a Radeon 4770. Best purchase of this year, so far.

    Worst Graphics Card Purchases

ATI Radeon 9600 XT AGP. I still have that card! This was quite possibly the worst piece of hardware I ever bought. It was ok in 2D but the thing had inexplicable freezes, hangs, lockups and reboots in 3D (mostly games), no matter which motherboard you put in. It was supposed to be an AGP 8X card...

Good 2.5" laptop hard disk drive

I am looking for a 2.5" laptop SATA drive, which will be used inside a external USB enclosure. I have narrowed down the list to 3. Leaning towards the Hitachi right now because it seems to be faster and I am thinking about running Virtual Machines directly off the external drive via USB (if...

I will give that a try Insidious. Also do you know what's the best way to stop the F@H SMP client? I have been using CTRL + C and that seems to produce the following warning next time when I start the cilent. Closing the console window has the same problem.

The system is overclocked Q6600 at 3Ghz but I am only running the F@H at 60% CPU load (it's summer in NZ). Also this only seems to happen when starting a new unit. Cost of distributed computing, over 150$ per year per computer!

I think the previous poster was meaning to say that 700watts for a TV is a lot. Yes, dryers use a lot of power (watts) but in most houses TVs are on for a longer period than those appliances. I definitely wouldn't buy a TV that pulled 700 watts, no matter how good it was. 200-300w is ok.

Normal Idle temps on stock HSF for Q6600?

When I got my Q6600 my idle temps were between 39-42c at ambient of 24c. Load went as far as 72c! So your idle temps look a bit high to me but I cleaned up the thermal pad type material from the stock cooler and used Arctic Ceramique instead.

Interesting. I just looked around in the BIOS and the only setting that enabled was USB power on from S3, which I disabled and then restarted. Still got 23W. Q6600 B3 stock @ 71C prime95, too hot?

    Q6600 B3 stock @ 71C prime95, too hot?

I don't think 70C is bad or even unusual for Quad chips with stock cooler. My G0 revision Q6600 used to have Prime95 load temps of 72-75C at around 24C ambient with stock heatsink and no overclock. Adding a couple of noisy case fans would lower it to around 67C. I got rid of the stock...

    How low can you go?

1.22v is the lowest my board (Abit IP35) allows me to go. My 6600 overclocked to 3Ghz just by changing the FSB from 266 to 333Mhz. I have a Thermalright 128-SE cooler with Panaflo H1BX fan (undevolted) and Prime95 load temp is ~ 53-55C at around 24C ambient.
