I will be doing comparison with 4870X2 on the penalty of PCIe at x1,4,8,16 on 2.0 when I receive my parts on Friday should have it up either Saturday/Sunday.

HD 4870 @2560x1600

Are you using Temporal AA or Multisampling or Supersampling? Both take a good hit in performance but make AA much better. Some games MS is faster others SS is.

What company to go with for an ATI card?

All cards on the market right now are ATI reference design, it should be sometime this week or in a few weeks that 2nd party coolers will be installed.

4850 scores test 1 100 112 115 test 2 100 131 148 What I am saying is that the drivers improved the speed. The 4870 saw an increase at all resolutions, but the 4850 in the 2560 test saw none, but saw a good amount in the other two tests (1280 would get both drivers+CPU increase)...

Then why wouldnt the GTX 280 AMP only gain ~2-3FPS @ 90+ if it was just ram? I can't think any reason unless CF uses more RAM than a single Nvidia card. Even the CF 4850 CF saw great gains except at 2560, which could be indicitive of video memory bandwidth (as opposed to what one would think...

Can the GTX280 work on my motherboard??

PCI-E 2.0 is backward compatible with 1.1. The only difference is that it will run at the 16x 1.1 standard which is equal to 8x in 2.0 in terms of bandwidth. It will work no problem, maybe a few frames slower is all.

Well I plan on buying a new Mobo/CPU but I don't want to buy a new power supply as well. It's not really in my budget. I already know the R700 has 1 6 pin + 1 8 pin connector (you can see the pics with the black PCB) and you can see the person running it with 2 6 pins instead and it works...

Well with my PSU I wouldnt have a problem supplying the power to a card let alone two. The problem is I only have 1 6 pin, and 1 6+2 (8 pin) pin. I was trying to decide if I should wait for the R700 or get a new board and do CF. However, if you need 4 6 pin connectors I can't physically do it...

Not all 2.0 cards require all the pins to be attached because the 2.0 slot provides more power than the 1.1. The question is whether this is the same for the 4870 only requiring 1 6 pin, not 2 when in the 2.0 slot. Using hypothetical math numbers here. 1.1 slots give 50 watts of power...

Got a Dell Inspiron E1705 (aka 9400)

One cant overclock, like I said, the GPU has flaw and can barely run 350 perfectly. Two, one person says maybe, the otherone says impossible...lol. Who knows best?
