LCD Panel Decision.
Is it worth the added $150 for the upgrade. I will be playing Far Cry and maybe some older 3Dish type games like Age of Mythology "Gold Edition" and WarCraft III... not WoW.
Glossy, high contrast, widescreen 17.0 inch display (1440 x 900)

Thanks... perhaps I was thinking of the EN-7237
I think the major difference between the 7237 and the 7250 are the 2 USB ports in the front of the 7250. Anyways... I'll use this link and whatever else I find about modding the the 7237 and apply it to my 7250.
The link above provides a mod...
Hi,
I remember seeing a link a couple of years ago that went into detail on how to MOD a Enlight EN-7250 Case. I've had this beige case sitting around for a while and want to mod it black and install a side window... perhaps install a blow hole.
Any suggestions or links? I tried Google...
I agree with "NoGod".... go for the DX 10 video Laptops... avoid any "7000" series video and look for "8000" series video. More and more games like Supreme Commander will be taking advantage of DX10 as time goes on.
Plug in an external monitor for even better graphics
I called RJtech.com yesterday and they said they will have DX10 Mobile GPU's for the Clevo D900C in a month or so. I hoping they will have the compatible ASUS A7S soon as well.
Anyone know where I can go to get directions on how to replace my LCD screen for an A55-S1063 ? I did a few Goggle searches with no luck... or is there a forum on another website that would be better suited for a question like this?
Without getting dedicated graphics... it will be hard to find something that is "Vista Capable". Cheapest deal you will find that has dedicated graphics is around $1100 + s/h.
This Dell E1505 $1,082 +s/h with the 256MB ATI x1400 is about the lowest I would go for Vista...
Is it possible for you to wait 2-4 months until the mobile DirectX 10 Video chipsets come out?
Games like Supreme Commander and Crysis will be taking full advantage of DirectX 10.
I'm looking to purchase or possibly build a "Gaming" Laptop myself but I'm waiting for this feature before I...
I've had mixed results with 3rd party batteries but I would do it again. At one time Batteries.com was pretty good. I would order them for customers who had old Pentium 3 or older AMD K6 Laptops

LOL... happens to the best of us... speaking of military terms... home chicken has been MIA... after all this back and forth... I'd like to hear from him.
Tough Books are "Durable and Long lasting..." but the graphics suck. I'm having trouble finding a good dedicated graphics example...
That's not a bad build even if it has 1GB less Ram and a 5400rpm HD. But I still like my build. The 2GB Ram will come in handy for Vista.
S-550BX This other iBuy laptop is not a bad deal either for $1115 after rebate and s/h. It would be great if the MXM could be upgraded.
Perhaps I assumed Iraq... usually going "overseas" is a codeword for Iraq or Afghanistan. If he goes anywhere else... he can simply buy one through the internet and have it shipped to him. Being overseas and buying a laptop is not really an issue when stationed in Germany or Korea... etc...
The price range get's into the $1500+ range and you get less ram and a slower hard drive from Alienware... HP crowd. Price factors in S/H and or taxes.
I did a 12 month tour in Iraq back in 2004 - 2005 (OIF 3). The sand storms are a BITCH over there. The sand which feels more like baby powder and get's into everything. Here's a video of what I'm talking about (requires DSL or Cable Internet)...
I copied and pasted from my original post. This will be my first laptop build after building many desktops than I care to remember (ex-Computer Repair Tech). I'm assuming Murphy's Law considering this is my first time... at least I wont use poor quality parts like a PC CHIPS motherboard like I...
Not much I can do about the keyboard but for game play I guess you could always plug in an an external LCD or CRT. The screen quality hopefully will suffice for "on the go" computing. It will be great if I could upgrade the video MXM but I'm not holding my breath on that.
Anyone have the link for TigerDirect Notebook Barebones. I had it the other day now I cant find it the link after reformatting my HD. Forgot to save my Favs.
This Laptop (L35-S2151) is fetching $550 - $650 on Ebay. We had warm weather here in Missouri... a net $250 profit (factoring in Taxes/Paypal/Ebay/S&H fees) is not a bad take to sleep in front of a store for 8 hours for those that need the money.
You can always use the profit to get a better...
I would set the starting bid at .99 cents and let the market decide what it's worth. I find that when you item gets lots of bids it attracts attention to it like moths to a flame.
Setting it at .99 also lowers your Ebay starting price fee to just 20 cents
HP.com is offering this deal for $399 after $100 rebate. I would suggest upgrading to 1GB (add $50) Ram but this will do the job:
If one of you is a student... you get an extra $50 off.
Compaq Presario V3000Z
Operating System Genuine Windows XP Home Edition
Processor Mobile AMD...
According to Black Friday CompUSA will be selling the Antec NoteBook Cooler for $9.99 on 24 NOV aka "Black Friday."
I'm gonna pick one up assuming it turns out to be true.
I think the original battery is fine. She'll learn like we all do when & where to plug it in when on the road.
1GB Ram could come in handy when dealing with Powerpoint.
HP is offering this deal for $399 after $100 rebate. I would suggest upgrading to 1GB (add $50) Ram but this will do the job:
Compaq Presario V3000Z
Operating System Genuine Windows XP Home Edition

Well I went to Best Buy... they didnt have the BIOS password protected. There was nothing listed concerning ANY type of RAID.... looks like I'm back to Plan A and buying the CLEVO. I still have until DEC to figure out what I want.
I see that HP's new laptops Pavilion dv9000t series can do RAID 0 as well.
HP dv9000t series
Let me see if Best Buy has any on display. With luck they havent password protected the BIOS's on them... or I can always ask the mighty "Geek Squad" if they can enter it for me.
Thanks for the tip. I will do an Ebay / Google search and see if anything turns up. I'm not 100% sure but I think I can upgrade the video from the default ATI x1600 to a 7800gs. The only game that I might play is Age of Mythology. The specs I listed should be fine for that game. It's just to...
Basically I just need this to backup (RAID 1) customer data "on the go" when entering their information in Quickbooks 2007 Retail edition. I'll also be backing up select files in Quickbooks at the end of the day... but I just want the peace of mind knowing that if my primary HD goes down... I...
I ended up buying this Alienware for $999 + s/h. They had a special going on last week. If your patient, I'm sure they will offer it again. Or juts ask them... the worst they can say is no. http://www.alienware.com/Configurator_P...-LT-AREA51M5550-R3&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT
I dont play WoW but I...
Just need RAID 1 to enter Quickbooks info when I go to a client's house. If the main hard drive goes bad... I have the RAID 1 backup.
I dont see the need to spend $3000+ to do that.... or be forced to get 512mb 7900gtx video just because I want to do RAID 1. I'm figuring someone has to make a...
I'm looking into my second laptop for business purposes only. I just need something under $1500 that can do RAID 1 to protect client data. I could care less about screen size... rez... ram... hard drive... video... I can always install my own Ram / HD's if need be.
Pre-built... Barebones... I...
I suppose I could always plug in an external monitor when playing games at higher rez.. but yea... I think I'll do fine at 15.4" WideXGA 1280 x 800.
If it was 17".... I would spring for the higher rez.
So long as I play low to moderate eye candy... I should be fine with NeverWinter Nights...
