ASUS X99 won't allow bootable RAID

Are they 100% plugged into the Intel SATA ports according to the manual? If there is a 3rd party SATA controller on the board.

Windows desktop x SSD endurance

Don't worry about it. The amount of writes it takes to significantly dig into a modern SSDs flash reserves is insanely high. Check the amount of writes via SMART data or the manufacturer's drive utility in 6 months to a year and see how you stand. My guess is you'll have a decade or two left.

mass effect 3 - buy now or wait for dlc bundles ?

It's a great game and the multiplayer is just as good. I had already run through the game a few times before most of the DLC came out. Picked a couple DLC up for that 5-10 dollar range and lost the drive to replay single player again. 515+ hours into multiplayer and a couple weeks of play on...

Just installed Windows on my new SSD! OMG!!!

First time I installed a SSD was early 2009 or so when the X25 first came out. Bought it for a conference room laptop that gives presentations all day. It would bog down during updates, virus scans, etc. That machine still feels damn fast and is sporting the original X25 without trim running XP.

How spoiled are people with SSD's?

Don't need faster/bigger/better motorcycles, processors, video cards, speakers, televisions, etc. Try going backwards. Can always do without but don't want to.

Too much ram.

On your average home computer it's going to be very difficult to try and make use of 16GB of memory. I've got 8GB and have a selection of 4-5 newish games. One or two are played every day and all are played each week. I've usually got 1-2GB unused with Superfetch enabled.

P8P67 PRO issues?

That sucks. Did you offer to pay for the repair and XFX still refused? If that is the case I'm going to reconsider XFX for my next card. I'd be heartbroken to see my new card go out like that :(

Corsair Performance 3 Series SSD now available on Newegg. Very pricey!

Way too expensive. For a desktop OS and game volume I'd rather go with RAID 0 of far cheaper drives.

8GB vs 4GB

Go with 8GB. It's inexpensive and memory has been known to make huge swings in price. With 8GB you will likely be ok for several years to come.

SB Overclocking Thread

4.8 game stable. 4.6 Prime stable. Both put max temps right around 70c with a Hyper 212+ with two fans. Have it running at 4.6 until the newness wears off. The 200mhz difference didn't seem to make a discernible difference in BlackOps, BC2, Civ IV, or F1 2010 . Picked up 5-10 fps in these games...

To 2600K or not to 2600K : That is the question

I want the 2600k for that extra bit. Hyperthreading, additional cache, and higher clocks provide some extra value. All those exta % add up in a machine. % with HT, cache, and clocks % due to CPU overclocking % due to memory overclocking % due to VGA overclocking % due to OS and other tweaks...

What happened to Indilinx and....

I think the new smaller memory size, 25nm?, was delayed. If I was a mfg it would be something I'd wait for. Sandforce has their new SF2000 coming but sounds like it's going to have business sized margins built in.

SSD's in enterprise?

I'm in the same boat as the OP. Have several older servers sporting 15k rpm RAID 5 arrays. A single RAID 1 set of consumer SSDs would be more than enough to virtualize them all onto the same machine. It's the uncertainty and failure rate that is holding me back.

Narrowed my choices down to a Dell Vostro 3400 or Acer Timeline 3810. Vostro is probably twice the machine for almost same price, $550-600. I'm not sure what the gotcha is with it and it appears to be new enough there aren't any reviews. Getting into a Core i3 350 for the same price as a Pentium...

Multiple projector gaming setup

Wouldn't Eyefinity work the same with projectors as it would with monitors? From the reviews I've seen so far it seems to support up to six displays using onboard card outputs from two cards. Lets say you took six 1080p projectors and set them up to throw pictures side by side for a picture...

Poll: GT300 VS. HD5870

Does a six month wait really merit any kind of wait and see? If GT300 comes out with 20% or better frame rates over a 5870 then sell it and pick up the better card. Probably take a $50-100 hit from the purchase price and you have gotten six months of gaming @ max settings.

Openfiler sucks

FreeNAS doesn't handle iSCSI in the manner that Xenserver wants it handled. I've got it on a test box now and it's much easier to use but just doesn't want to function with Xen. There is a workaround for it but that's not acceptable at the level I'm needing these things to work at. Looking for...

Storage recommendations for HD Video Editing (Home System)

IMHO RAID 6 is for the paranoid and folks with a large number of spindles. I wouldn't expect RAID 6 to become relevant until you get over eight drives. Up to that opting for RAID 10 is going to offer better performance, very similar redundancy, inexpensive controller options, and quicker rebuild...
