I wasn't trying to do that but everytime I take the MicroModem out I get a Windows conflict where it won't allow me into windows. I takes me to safe-mode.

No dial tone problem

The phone line works fine. Will Hyper Terminal determine whether or not the modem is functioning ok? I used the modem diagnostic that came with XP and it showed that the modem is works. The modem is new - I took it off another computer that I upgraded to DSL. Could there be another problem? :o

Leave computer on 24/7 or turn off daily?

Turn my home computers off when not use, but completely opposite at my job. We generally leave them on in hibernation when not is use. Has not affected the computer at all either way.

I found out the reason for my problem. The reformatted drive and OS was looking for extra drivers that I had hooked to the computers. I had connected the printer, exterior DVD, and the UPS. All used the USB ports. I had not installed the USB drivers therefore the computer was looking for them...

The disk does say it is a OEM - its says its a Windows XP Home Edition OEM Product. It is not for Dell because the system is not a Dell system Its a clone.

I tried booting from the XP cd but it still would not work. I get to the point where its trying to install the O/S and I get get the messaage " looking for amrs file in XP. Then it ask me to type in the pathname for it. On the d drive it shows, D:\i386. It will not let me type anything.

How can I tell if I have a upgrade XP or a full version XP since the O/S was already installed when I got the computer. If its an upgrade version, that's where my problem can becoming from since I don't have a O/S on my computer - I'm doing a clean re-install of XP.

Thanks, You are right about the ease of installing a new power supply. I misrepresented myself when I said I need go out to pay some else install a new power supply since I can do that myself If that's indeed what my problem turns out to be.
