Basically, the people using this computer keep breaking a peice of software. Not really their fault, its just that it keeps temporary files and has quite a memory for what has been done with it. I have thus far been repairing this by periodically deleting the whole folder and copying it and...

Are there any energy sources that produce a cold byproduct instead of a heat related one?

actually, its a law of thermodynamics (can't remmebr which, one of carnot's I think) that there must be waste heat in a heat engine. (basically anthing like a combustion engine or refrigerator you know, stuff we use to power our generators on average, I dunno about things that deal with atomic...

Electrical characteristics at 60,000ft

A big concern for IC's on space missions are not so much the electrical characteristics but the actual pakage chracteristics. The darastic lower pressure and high heat upon reentry (takeoff too?) means that imperfections can prove disaterouse. Air bubbles etc can literally tear the thing apart...

Cell phone as a modem for laptop

The Tzone thing works or at least used to, after they stopped giving it for free (it was like a year long promotional) I haven't tried, they do block ports but you can sete up a proxy on your desktop computer if you want to get around that and its like $5 a month or something, or was it 10...

actually I gave up on trying to recover the data, after all the semester is ending and I really don't care about her pirated music collection. I'll keep plugging away with different apps but in general I think the HDD will need to be replaced, but she is determined to bring it to a professional...

its an HP laptop, its a hitachi Hard drive, hitachi is part of IBM, therefore hard drive diagnostics are available from IBM but I do agree that it sounds like the only alternative it seems is to replace the drive, I'll continue tinkering, just wanted to make sure the next viewers don't...

I wish I could remember it, my math teacher in highschool showed us the (maybe just a, but I think its the same one) 2+2=5 proof considering we had 2+2=5 for large values of 2 in those exact words. Its not really a proof becuase like all those divide by zero tricks it involves doing bad math...

Cheap Prescription Glasses Thread (as low as $19)

I don't know about most of the army, but the airforce doesn't allow lasik because when pulling too many g's the flap comes undone but PRK is good enough for flying tankers and stuff, IIRC fighter pilots can't even have prk. (They told my brother was in the AROTC who wears glasses)
