Thanks for the info. Just saw an article over @ Tom's comparing different 1156 coolers. Looks like I might go with the Scythe Mugen-2 Revision B. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/lga-1156-heatsink,2535-14.html
Hmm... website is still showing $199.
I may go with SLI / CF down the road, or just get a dual GPU single slot card. Waiting to see what Nvidia comes up with for DX11.
I'm debating between the GA-X58A-UD3R and i7 920 vs a ~$200 board (EVGA P55 FTW, etc.) and an i7 860. They both work out to roughly the same price. I'd like to overclock, using the retail HSF, if possible to around 3.4Ghz with minimal tweaking. I figure either of these systems will be more than...
That's your first mistake...
3DMark scores mean jack ******. Look at the performance in real world games. It barely competes with the 8800GTS 640 AND it costs more, draws as much or more power than an 8800GTX and generates more heat.
I really wanted ATI to be a competitor this round, but...
Why do you guys even bother posting links to Turd's Hardware reviews? It's already a proven fact that the HD2900XT blows away the other cards in 3DMARK. In the real world, it's a different story...
Figured with your contacts, you could find out when Nvidia plans on releasing new Windows XP drivers for the 7900 and older series cards? It's been over 5 months, which is pretty pathetic.
Forcing you to answer a math question to buy a product? That's discrimination! What about all the mentally retarded folks? There's the basis for your lawsuit.
Yeah, the C19 was the same northbridge used on the Nforce4 SLI x16 Intel Edition, I believe. They were trying to slip it in and rebadge it as the Nforce 590, but it bit 'em in the arse.
I have both the A8N32-SLI and DFI Infinity NF4 Ultra motherboards in two different PCs. Also have a Cat5e wired network, running at GigE speed. When using the Nvidia NIC on both motherboards, I get widely fluctuating ping times pinging internal servers. Anywhere from 1ms to 25ms. On the...
Just curious as to why you should disable Cool & Quiet when overclocking? I know that C&Q adjusts the multiplier, etc. to slow the CPU down when it's not under load, but isn't that a good thing as far as temps go? Wouldn't it still crank back up to the overclocked speed when the processing...
Strange problem with my new A8N32-SLI. While I was testing the o/c on my Opty 165, I had Memclock Limit set to Manual and Memclock Value set to 100Mhz. Finally got my HT settings stable at 280x3, so I tried changing Memclock Value to 133 to start RAM testing. If I change the Memclock Value...
Well, I purchased 2 of the PNY 7900GTX boards. Will post if I have any problems with them. I just couldn't see paying an extra $80 ($40x2) for the eVGA, when I'll never take advantage of the step-up program. Wasn't sure about Leadtek.
I'm waiting for the AT review to confirm, but HardOCP's video card reviews tend to be very good. Still debating on a 7900GTX SLI or 1900XT Crossfire setup, though I've been hearing bad things about Crossfire being flakey.
1 - The 7900GTX does have less transistors than the 7800. Nvidia did something called "re-piping", which allowed them to drop transistors.
2 - The slow performace in F.E.A.R. is a known issue, and a driver fix has been made available.
Both of these are in the review on HardOCP.
I'm holding off until I see the Geforce 7900 reviews. That will make up my mind as to whether I go with RD580/Crossfire or Nforce4/SLI. Already have my Opteron 165.
If RD580/Crossfire, then will wait for the DFI RD580 board. I'm not really liking the fact that using a dual slot card in...
The DFI board in the picture is definately S939. Check out the HSF mount - two screws (939) instead of 4 (AM2).
I've been trying to hold off until the AM2 processors, but I might just have to break down and buy an RD580/Opteron/Crossfire combo now.
