DVD burner question: DVD +R vs DVD -R?

No matter what format you prefer it ultimately comes down to what works most with the drives/devices it will be used in. If -r works in most/all your devices, you'll love that. The same is true for +r. Since there are computers that I deal with often that don't like the +r media, I stick...

Since you didn't care for my idea of the case, I'm not surprised. Don't get upset if I don't lose a wink of sleep over your opinion... BTW, EVERYONE has an opinion and is free to express it. That's the beauty of this country. You don't need to agree with anyone else's opinion, or even care...

    Thermal Tape?

You can find some at frozencpu.com. It's cheap enough that you won't need to worry about it. I'm sure if you hunted a bit you might find the same stuff locally. Either way, order up a couple of squares and try it out.

    P4 power supply = HUH?

Power supplies that are P4 ready will also work (equally well) with the current line of AMD processors. It's actually been like that since the P4 came out.

    CAMERA

What size prints are you looking to make? I'd suggest checking out Canon digital cameras before other brands. I'm on my second one (upgraded to a digital SLR) while my mother, sister and at least one cousin also have Canon digital cameras. Everyone with one loves it.

    USB Burners

It won't be useless, but it will be so slow it will be painful. Also, many USB2 burners won't allow you to burn very fast when connected to an USB 1.1 port. I've seen ones go down as far as 4x for the max/cap for burning cd's... If you want to put the burner onto a system with only USB1.1...

    Water vs. Air

The XP-120 is made by ThermalRIGHT, not Thermaltake... Try an Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 5 on your video card. It will reduce the ilde/load temps on it. I have one on mine and at idle it ranges from about 40-46C. At load, I've yet to see it go over 60C (if that high). I'm using two...

Can you hook up 2 case fans to 1 mb connection?

One fan connection, one fan should be connected to it. As you already pointed out, they won't be able to draw enough power from a single connection (to two fans) to function properly. You could even damage your mobo by trying to feed two fans off of the single connection. You're better off...

Okay, Let's Settle This: NV Silencer or V700 Cu?

I have the NV Silencer 5 on my 6800GT and it simply rocks. Not only does it cool the chip better than the stock cooler (by at least 10C) it helps to keep the insides of my case cooler since it vents the air OUT. The zalman cooler just pushes the hot air into the case, just like 99% of the other...

    Lian-Li QC problems?

I have the V1100b case and it's built like a tank. With the full 2mm side panels and such it's solid enough for me to sit on... I've have no quality issues wiith the V1100b case, at all. It came with everything I needed to put the computer into it, and more. The only semi-complaint I have (not...

seagate sata drive owners. are your drives loud?

The new SATA drives with the NCQ are not that loud... At least not the pair of 250GB drives that are inside my rig. Of course, depending on your case, it might amplify the sounds that the drives make. If your Seagate drive doesn't have the NCQ, return it for one that does.

Warning about Lian Li 1200 cases

You should keep in mind that this is not a small company producing a tiny number of products that only has a few customers. Taking under a week to get back to you is pretty good, especially since they are not based out of the US. I sent an email to them requesting information about the fans...

    Is 68dB Really Loud?

where can i go to get a hole cut in my side panel ?

I'd imagine that if you marked the panel properly with a center point and outside line for the hole, it would only cost a few dollars. Whatever their minimum charge for such small jobs is. To do a real clean job, you need at least a drill press, sharp hole cutter made for the materials...

where can i go to get a hole cut in my side panel ?

To get the hole cut, clean, check your local yellow pages for machine shops. They should be able to either cut or punch the hole for you without difficulty (or too much expense).

    Video Card

What are you going to be doing with that computer?? For low powered applications (like web surfing and such) the 4200 should be ok. If you expect to game with it, you'll really want a better card than some cheap POC $50 item.

    Is 68dB Really Loud?

Reducing it like that makes it a worse buy than getting a lower RPM, CFM, dBA fan... You can get one that moves about half the air, at less than half the noise level for less money. If you're not going to use that fan at a CFM that makes the huge expense worth it, it's a waste of money.

    Thermalright XP-120 Issue/Problem

I have the heatpipes facing my video card... I've also changed fans since that picture was taken... HTPC Case Advice

The subscriptions is what kills you... It's tied to that particular box, so if you get it replaced, you have to do a new subscription (even if you do a lifetime one). With the computer, you have NO extra monthly costs, since it grabs the schedule from the internet (for free). I have WMCE05...

Anyone sqeeze PC into Xbox case?

The biggest challenge you will face is going to be getting the PCI slots to the outside as well as the ports on the mobo. As for miniITX boards being at newegg, I haven't found any there. They might have some FlexATX boards that MIGHT fit... You'll need to change out the optical drive on the...

    Switched from PATA to SATA

There you go... m$ drivers were the issue... I guess I had assumed that you had already checked for SATA drivers before posting... I won't be looking to install the 64 bit version onto my own system until it's an official release. That way, I'll get it in my quarterly update package... I'll...

    Switched from PATA to SATA

If you're going to maintain that it's not the BETA OS, then it's the maxtor hard drive OR the crapware that you used to move your data over. The ONLY way to eliminate that, or anything else, as being the source of the issue is to do a CLEAN install onto the SATA drive and see if the sluggish...

    Switched from PATA to SATA

As I said, it sounds like the maxtor crapware has buggered your OS/system... You can try a checkdisk on your drive (will launch on reboot) to see if that fixes it. Chances are, though, you'll really need to wipe and reinstall everything in order to fix it properly. I ALWAYS junk the software...

    Switched from PATA to SATA

If you still have the old PATA drive intact, I suggest putting your critical files on that for the short term. That is, while you wipe and reinstall onto the SATA drive. X-tra cheap bulk cases

portable 2.5 inch USB 2.0 Hard Drive Enclosure error?

There are 2.5" drive enclosures that can draw enough power throught a desktop/tower USB2 connection to do both power it up and transfer data. Of course, IF you used FireWire (ieee1394a/b) you wouldn't need to worry one lick about not having enough power for the 2.5" drive, enclosure, bridge...

    CPU fan/temps troubling

If I recall properly, My XP3000+ was running low to mid 40's at idle, and no more than about 55C at full load. Any time it went over 55C I'd let it cool down. I think I even set the mobo/bios reboot point to 65C so that it would protect the processor for over heating.
