I'm having the same problems you have, monkeydust. I just spent the past 5 hours trying to repair my windows install. I finally am able to try and reinstall windows again, but the install said that the hard drive is bad.

I doubt they want to run Vista business as what the upgrade path says on Newegg http://promotions.newegg.com/microsoft/vista/TechGuarn.html, so I would recommend getting Windows XP MCE http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16832116171, which gives you an upgrade to Home Premium for...

Got a Seagate 400GB 7200.10, ???s about noise and Perpendicular recording.

I have the same drive as you (2 of them in RAID 1 configuration), and I also noticed they are some of the quietest drives that I have owned.
