    ASUS RAID 0 issue

As long as the drives aren't bad, the partitioning setup wasn't messed around with, and you have the same motherboard (or in case of Intel, just the same ICH chipset), you should be able to grab the data off of it without any issues. Anything else and you are pretty much out of luck. orz

    Intel DP55WG DDR3 1600 or 1333

I just used 4x 2GB sticks of DDR3-1333 from Crucial (Micron). Works fine and runs at 1.5V. Not planning on overclocking it (since it's for my VPN/Hyper-V server).

    How can I reformat a P-P-P-Powerbook G4 without disc?

A copy of Tiger will work fine on a machine of those specs. I'm sure you can buy a copy for around $50 - $80.

Are you referring to the 9-pin connectors for the Power/Reset switch and Power/HD LED? If you are, you should just be able to extract the connector block and connect the wires individually.

WorkLog - Lind *Lets Build a Dual Gainestown Server*

You're never too old to think that Enterprise hardware looks more pleasing to the eye than consumer grade hardware. Workstation and Server grade stuff will always be more pimp. :) Overkill much for a NAS? I mean, what are you planning on having it do while it just serves data? Fold? :o As...

Need a dirt cheap replacement mobo for a AMD 3500+, can I find one under 40 dollars?

This board seems to fit the bill if you are just looking for a basic motherboard.

    Recommend a mobo

I second on the EP45. I had two machines using those boards for a while (before I upgraded them) and they ran just fine on stock settings. If you are not planning on overclocking, then I would suggest an Intel board. Nothing fancy, but it just works.

    785G board with.. Socket 939?

Not that I know of. The memory controller on the 939 chips only supported DDR and not DDR2.

    Building a virtualisation rig

Sharpie, VMWare is indeed very powerful and will serve just fine for the OP. However, I think that Hyper-V does offer some of these features as well such as: snapshot support, separate networks, and cloning VMs. Now I am not saying that the OP should just abandon the idea of VMWare, just that...

RAID setup... Are consumer backplanes reliable?

I'll agree with Cr0nJ0b on this one. I use consumer-grade hotswap bays on my server and workstation and I haven't had any issues. That being said, the enterprise level hardware does feel more solid and usually the warranty is better.

    Building a virtualisation rig

That is true, but I'm sure that the test will consist of topics that relate to Hyper-V.

    Building a virtualisation rig

I agree with sharpie on that note. Tread lightly on the hackintosh scene. It may work now, but sooner rather than later, you'll bound to have headaches. As for the machine, I'd say a Core i7 920 + Asus P6T SE or Gigabyte EX58-UD4P/UD5 or any SuperMicro 1366 motherboard (most come with onboard...

Intel Sending Out Previously RMA'd Motherboards as Warranty Replacements

Only a couple of manufactures that I've had to RMA items to gave me new stock. Intel and AMD gave new CPUs when I RMAed them, Corsair with their USB drives and memory, and Antec with their PSUs. All the hard drive manufactures that I know of gave out re-certified drives for both internal and...

    Issues with SSD RAID

As seen here, I am unable to get faster read/write speeds from my Adaptec 31205 RAID card. Does the TRIM information get passed through the RAID controller to Windows? If that is the case, then would a reinstall solve my issue (the current install is a ghost from my SAS drives). Current...

Is GA-EX58-UD4P worth $50 more over the UD3R?

I think it is worth it for that alone. But for the $50, you get another x16 slot, a heatpiped SB->NB, rear CMOS reset button, and a useable x4 slot (if you plan on using a double slotted card).

    RAID5 Runnig Slow

FakeRAID 5 as everyone has stated is going to be slow. That being said however, my FakeRAID on a Promise TX4 with 4x 7200.10 320GBs ran fine and sustained about 120MB/s with a burst of 133B/s (PCI bus limit). You can snag a cheap hardware RAID card on ebay for dirt cheap (a Dell Perc seems like...

    ASrock

Biostar was hit or miss for me. Their T-Force boards are great budget boards that perform almost on par with the likes from Asus/MSI/Gigabyte/DFI. The older boards were flops mostly. As for ASRock, they seem like a knockoff to me, but I know that they make some interesting board designs and I...

    Which motherboard is better?

I love my Gigabyte EX58-UD4P. It doesn't like overclocking with 12GB of RAM, but that's with the Core i7 most likely. I've failed overclocking several times but the board boots up every single time.
