Hot deal on the BEST Notebook HDD

Looking into buying more ram for my laptop.

Well, unless your laptop has a chipset with windows based timing config changing your ram will run at the slowest SPD from an unmatched pair. On a desktop I have no qualms about buying CL3 DDR400 for instance because almost every stick I've bought can run DDR400 at 2-3-3-6 with no problems...

I disagree. I find laptop SODIMM SPD timings more important than desktop ones since you aren't able to manually set timings in bios on most (any?) laptops.

Friend interested in a Compaq notebook at BestBuy - any good?

I just purchased one of these and I'm very happy with it. Overclocks easy to 2ghz/DDR800 with ntune :) I can play LOTRO at medium settings just fine on the integrated graphics and the battery lasts approximately 3 hours. I also purchased one of the 399 (299) acer 3680's and another 512 SODIMM...

Dell 2007WFP banding?

Keep in mind that the banding in the sky changes based on the time of day you're looking at it (sky gets lighter and darker) and changes depending on the zone you're in and if theres any weather going on there at the time. It looks horrible on my 2005FPW most of the time so if it is worse on the...

How hot was your video card? On oblivion

I regularly saw 50 idle 83 load with the stock cooler on my sapphire x850xt at 600/1200. replaced the heatsink with a ATI cooler 5 rev 2 and it dropped to 32C/69C at the same speeds with 35/43C case temps.. Nothing wrong with 73 at all in my opinion.

Dell 2007WFP banding?

They did something to skies in WoW with the 1.10 patch, they are banded on everyone I've asked about it's screens. I have tested it personally on a 6600GT and an X850XT on a dell 2005FPW, a rosewill 17" LCD and a 19" envision CRT and they all get the same banding. I can see the gradients on...

I would never buy one of these again knowing what I know now. I bought it on october 23rd, by november 1st 4 of the keys wore off, and right now I cant see the letters on 6 keys and a third of my space bar is rubbed off. It wouldn't be so bad if just the letters wore off, but the entire black...

I spoke too soon, it was the 300mhz overclock that did it most likely that I had done that morning, but at least I can watch it with software decoding on a barton running at 2500mhz. I don't have HL2 so I can't check that I'm afraid. :(

Didn't work, I just tried this with 71.20 and 71.22. It gets a little farther before it turns to complete choppiness though (about 7 seconds) That didn't work either, I followed your advice and got nvtweak and enabled VMR rendering on 4 different sets of drivers that are supposed to work and...

I have a 6600GT AGP as well (PNY brand) and Pure Video does not work for me either. 100% CPU usage and dropped frames with any driver I've thrown at it. It only works with DVD's here.

Need a video card in the $50 to $100 range.

I was in the same position and ended up getting a $69 radeon 9550 (with 128 bit memory interface) and a $10 arctic cooling VGA silencer. Stock speeds were 250/400 and it is running at 452/536 now getting 3918 in 3dmark03 and I'm very happy with the choice :)...
