Mobile Celeron on a desktop board?

i have a 2.0ghz P4m on an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe and it's running at 3.0ghz w/ Kingston HyperX4000. running at 12x250 right now.

I need your help picking a laptop.

i'd go w/ an IBM. i have a T22 and i'm still using it. i love it. but IBM's are expensive. in which case i would get either a Toshiba or an HP/Compaq. the new DV1000 is nice. also my sister has a Compaq x1000, those things are great. i love the 15.4" widescreen. definitely get a Centrino...

Making your old DVD burner burn dual-layer media

that's all a gamble on what you can get w/ an 8x Pacific Digital. it can be an 851s, 811s, 2500a, or an Optorite. most of the ones i've seen when they had them at OM were 811s. i didn't see any 2500a. you can tell by the serial number on the box. i'd say it's only worth it if you get an 851s or...

4k for a laptop...can't decide between p4 and p-m system

there are new A64's coming out that should use less power and save on battery life. but if i had that much money and didn't care about weight or battery life, i'd get an AlienWare laptop.

Is the TT Silent Boost better than the stock AMD HSF?

i just bought a TT Extreme 12 and i'll let you know how it goes. basically the same heatsink but w/ 2 more fins and a different fan. definitely better than stock, look at the reviews on NewEgg. i've had an Alpha PAL8045 but that's just not going to cut it anymore, i've have a CoolerMaster...

Thermaltake vs Antec

i remember seeing that Lian-Li in an article at TomsHardware, and i love the idea, but it's too expensive. i think the CoolerMaster WaveMaster or the TT Tsunami are great cases.

i would get an A64. TiaMat is right in saying you should wait for a good 939 mobo. looks like 939 is going to be the future of A64.

it's about time they get into the overclocking market. low-latency Crucial memory is definitely worth a look at. interesting to see how they perform against Corsair, Mushkin, OCZ, and Kingston HyperX.

Need to cool better!

1st try to reapply the heatsink and use a VERY thin layer of Artic Silver. then try this...use only 1 intake fan, and keep the 2 exhaust fans, don't the other fan blowing over the cpu, try to create a vacuum type of deal in your case, where you're blowing out a lot of the hot air and not really...

if you're just running apps and stuff, i've read that A64's can give you as much as a 15% increase in application performance. so i'd get an A64. if you want cheap, i'd get a 2500+.

Prime 95 crashes within a minute, 1 memtest error after 9 hours

have you tried to raise your vcore? if it's failing Prime95 that fast, you might want to also raise your vcore.

you don't really need an upgrade, i'm sure, you're well aware of that. it probably won't be worth the money you put out. your Bh-5 ram should do VERY well, some pc3500 ram use BH-5 chips. i would go to the amd forums for more info on what are the better steppings. it looks like you want a set...

How do you tell if you TRULY have an Athlon XP Mobile?

use CPU-Z or wcpuid, it'll tell you. it should boot up w/ mobile athlon xp though.

Big Choice...

for sake of having a newer technology, i'd go for the A64. but if you're going to do a lot of video editing, i'd have to say go for the P4. if you want to save money though, a P4 setup would be a bit cheaper than getting a A64 setup.

Pentium-M (Centrino) or P4 for laptop?

get the centrino, battery life almost double that of a p4 and performance should be on par. my sister has an X1000 and i've been using my friends P4 2.4 Dell 4150, the x1000 only has 256mb of ram and the dell has 512 but the x1000 definitely performs better. plus we get a lot life out of it...
