Can a Pix 501 route one VPN connection to another one?
We have a Pix 501 at our branch office that has a VPN tunnel to our main office. I connect remotely to the branch office's Pix, via Cisco vpn dialer. I am not able to access computers at our main office. The reason for this is because I...
I got a hold of an extra Duron 1 ghz, and I was wondering if it were possible to get it running on a Epox EP-7KXA. I thought that they sold slocket devices which physically enabled this, but am unsure. I tried looking for such a device on pricewatch, but only came up with ones for Intel's Slot 1...
What is the best antivirus s/w for a business of about 50 computers, including 3 file servers. We are not, and do not plan to, run Exchange Server. I was considering Norton AntiVirus 7.6 Corporate Edition, or Mcafee Virus Scan 4.x. Any Network Admins out there that have experience with both? I...
The DNX suffix needn't be filled out. I'm assuming your router is 192.168.0.8, right? You really should type "ipconfig /all" instead of "ipconfig" to get a more complete picture of you network settings.
Garion...
Wow, thanks. Both our databases require us to map drives. I guess the benefits of setting up a VPN really diminish if the entire database is being sent to the client. I would still like to setup a VPN to centralize some of the administrative tools, and to allow some files, such as...
Nutz, I've heard of Juniper, but not ODS. Do you know what specific low-end product or combination of products I should be looking for?
Garion, the databases we use are Peachtree for accounting and a Progress database for inventory management. I've never looked at the amount of bandwith that...
No we haven't priced out the cost of a Frame Relay link, because we might switch down to DSL at the two remote locations if it becomes available. We plan to use the VPN so that we can combine and centralize a couple of our databases (finance and inventory managment). Occasionally we might need...
Let's get this straight....
Win2k Server
Active Directory = yes.
DNS Server = yes.
Domain Controller = yes.
DHCP Server = ?.
Win2k Pro machine
IP Address aquisition = automatic.
DNS Server Address aquisition = automatic.
The server is on a separate domain then the Win2k pro box...
BACKGROUND
We have a small business with 3 locations across the country: California, Maryland, and New Jersey. We have SDSL in New Jersey. In Maryland and California we are not able to get DSL or cable, so are getting Point to Point T1 instead. There are about 5-10 computer users at each...
Is there any way to increase the font size for... icons, window titles, dialogue, etc.
Everything is so small that I have to either glue my face to the screen, or lower the resolution to be able to read the text.
...but how about replacing the file with another one with the same name?
If a new version of Internet Explorer comes out, I'm sure that iexplore.exe is updated with a newer version. There must be something that tells the OS stating whether its a user messing around with the "crucial OS files"...
I have this same problem.
However I have two machines running Win2k, and one running XP. It takes all computers 30 seconds to find the other computers. However I take my notebook (Win2k machine) into work and it finds the network very quickly. I have no idea what's wrong.
I tried deleting the file, it reappears.
I tried replacing it with a fake iexplore.exe, it magically converted that file to the original iexplore.exe
Has anyone been able to delete the file or remove the program?
Thanks everyone.
I'm going to give it a try now, using corp.reskit.com as the domain name. I hope this won't cause problems since reskit.com is registered and is being hosted by an web hosting company. I'll post on this board when I come across any problems.
Thanks so far,
Jashugan.
BTW...
So is priv.reskit.com ok??? I think that this would be easier than registering another domain name on the internet. However if it is easier to register another domain name, I'm willing to do that.
Ok... Here are the connection details...

Here's what people have tole me so far:
** DC#1 - New Jersey, DC#2 - California **
1. Register a domain name, reskitp.net, because reskit.com is hosted by the web hosting company.
2. Setup DC#1 in New Jersey and configure it for the domain "reskitp.net". 3. Rename...
Our infrastructure is relatively small. About 30 users in New Jersey and about 20 users in California. Speaking to another member it was suggested that I register another domain name to be used internally (eg. reskitp.net), because we are having a web hosting company handle reskit.com. Do you...
Maybe if you were more specific. DSL comes through the phone line, while cable come through the cable. What exactly are you asking about? Speed? Reliability? Ease of setup?
I want to setup Win2k server in two locations: California and New Jersey. Right now there is no communication between the two locations, because we haven't installed T1 yet. T1 will be installed in about 5-6 months. How should I setup the domains for each location if I want to later use VPN so...

Win 2k server is slower because it has more services running in the background. If you have only 2-3 comps in your network it doesn't really make sense to use Win2k server.
Well the notebook is probably 3-4 months old, definately bought after both ME and 2000 came out, so I don't think that it is too much to ask for to have them post/make drivers for these OS. Compaq had to send me a restore CD, because the one that came with the notebook only restored if the D...
Ive upgraded a Presario 1600-xl1 to Windows 2000 (pre-Service Packs). Windows 2000 didn't install the drivers for the following devices
1. Modem (Tried getting the drivers from lucent but when I installed them the modem was still not installed)
2. Audio Controller (Got the drivers from ESS but...
Hmmm... I don't have a decoder card. Actually the computer that is having the problems with the monitor is not the one listed in the signature. It's another one with a generic Trident video card. I'm thinking that it might be related to the video card drivers, but I'm going to have to think...
I DON'T login as admin. I log in as a user in the Power Users group. If I need to access/run something that requires admin privelages I just use the "Run As..." service, which BTW is easily the best feature of Win2k.
I'm having the same problem also. I installed Windows 2000 (fresh install) and it didn't detect my monitor. Not only that but it doesn't give me an option to update the driver. Worst of all there is NO MONITOR DEVICE UNDER DEVICE MANAGER. What is this???
Thanks Insomnium, although I'm still a bit confused about the difference between the router and the switch. Do you know of any good FAQs or resources on the the topic??
Thanks again.
Here is what I think is right...
Hub: passive device. Information requested by one computer is sent to all the computers.
Switch (router?): active device. Information requested by one computer is only sent to that computer.
Large networks NEED switches (routers?) because of increased security...
Hmmm.... that's intersting. Win2k usually has more stringent security than does Win98. Are you sure it's not the other way around? Meaning the Win98 machine is having problems accessing files located on the Win2k machine.
Thanks everyone. SuperGax, the way that I get my IP address is based on the name of my computer. I don't think you're allowed to have two computers with the same name on one network. I guess I could be wrong. I guess I'll be need a second network card to pull this off, shouldn't be too hard...
I have a cable modem connection that gets its IP dynamically. I have also set up (through a hub) so that my desktop can talk with my notebook. All computers involved only have one NIC. Is it possible to share the interenet connection going through my desktop with my notebook?????????? BTW...
