Looks like the 680i based boards will only support 45nm dual-core CPU's:

And official word from eVGA:

EDIT
It's just out of stock and the price now went up to 699. LOL, was available for 599 30 mins ago.
LOL, then I'll wait for the 8800 GTX.
BTW, the X1800XT is already in stock for $599:

I don't play the waiting game. But if you know there's something new just around the corner, like within a month, and you have limited funds, it might be prudent to wait a bit.
Is it the initial load, i.e, first start the game, or during map changing? It was always under 10 secs for me when changing maps. Initial load takes longer.
CRT for compettive/professional gaming if you want to stand a chance at all. LCDs are fine for non-competitive gaming. BTW, response time is very improtant but not the only factor.
People are reporting the X1800XL idles at very high temps, some reported 90C, could this be true?

I don't know... After OC'ing my 4800+ to 2.7ghz from 2.4 I scored around 1200 points more in 3dmark05.
EDIT
Insanely overclocked single 7800 GTX with similar CPU and GPU clocks can beat 7800 GTX SLI @ stock as well:

Be sure to download and install the AMD driver for dual-core cpus. It soleves some of the weird performance anomalies. There's also a hotfix from microsfot.
So far I've owned 3 cards from ATi, Mach32, Mach64, which were very good cards at their times, and 9800XT very briefly, so can't really say much about it.
According to my local store, the first batch are all defective - the thermal tapes for the backplate are not sticky enough and miswiring of the fan connector. They're waiting for the 2nd shipment.
