Would there be an advantage to adding a firewire network connection over an ethernet one?

You know, Gigabit ethernet cards can be had for around $50 for copper GigE. That's not a bad price, and probably wouldn't be that much over what the firewire connection would cost you. Then you can just run a crossover cable between the two PCs and get the whole pipe for transfers. Z.

SCSI cable for HP c1529 Tape backup help!

You should be able to go with just about any 2940 - they're all capable of the speeds a tape drive that age reaches. It all boils down to buying a 50 pin HD or 68 pin (UW) to 50 pin low density cable. That'll cost as much as a used 2940. :-p If you're willing to buy used, 2940's go for $20-$30...

Help! what's a good PCI board to run Dual Monitor

I've used a Mystique, Voodoo 3 PCI, and various Trident cards successfully. The V3 is the easiest to configure and work with, and has the most flexibility- not suprising in a newer card. I've also heard good things about PCI Geforce MX cards as secondary cards, but haven't used one myself. Z.

WTH? Installed BlackICE and it tells me I've been scanned 2500 times in 36 hours.

A lot of those "probes" look like people's computers looking for other computers for sharing. I would suspect that your ISP isn't filtering their network very well and that your network neighborhood is huge. (this is in reference to the NetBIOS connections with various computer names)...
