On my campus, the bandwidth is capped in the dorms. However, when I download something from apple's website, the bandwidth shoots up to 4-5 MB/s! There seems to be some loop hole for apple's website that gives it unfettered access. Is there anyway to figure out how to channel my normal internet...
I'm building this computer for a friend of mine. He says he's not going to play games. The only intensive stuff he's going to do is watch movies and maybe some processor intensive stuff. I plan to over clock the e2160. I read on avsforum that this video card will take the majority of the...
Hello, I'm building a rig in which I'd like a passive card for the $100 I've alloted. I guess I'll game sometimes, but if I do it won't be the games on the bleeding edge of technology. It needs to have DVI and be able to run a 22" LCD. Heck, maybe I don't even need to spend $100 if you can think...
When I'm encoding video on my current system, my system uses about 512MB of RAM. Since it's not using all of the 1GB I have, does that mean that mean adding more RAM would be of no benefit to this particular process?
Athlon64 memory dividers are funky. A divider isn't always as it appears because it depends on the CPU multiplier. For example, a 228 with an 11 multiplier and 200:183 divider yields 193MHZ memory speed. One would think it would be more.
Will dividers with Conroe be the same way, or will...
Thanks for your reponse Lord Evermore, it makes sense.
Here's something else I noticed. at gogar's athlon 64 OC optimizer a sample result suggests a 11 multiplier with 227 HTT (i'm not sure what to lable that number) and a 183 ram divider. One would think, that this would yield a MHZ of...
I've noticed something. Running 210 HTT 1:1 gives higher bandwidth according to memtest and sisoft than 228HTT 200:183 divider. Both with 11 multipliers. Both equate to about 210MHZ memory (confirmed by CPU Z), and the later configuration has a faster processor speed (2.5GHZ vs 2.3GHZ). Yet in...
My Epox 8KDA3J board just died (for the third time). Very pissed. I don't even want to go through the struggle of RMAing the board. I'm only replacing the motherboard and am not upgrading anything else. The new board will connect with a s754 Athlon 64 3200+, PC3200 2x512MB Mushkin Basic...
I've always wanted to build a machine that runs both operating systems. The hacked ways always kind of confused me and they seemed a little sketchy. But now with Boot Camp, I feel like this is a pretty easy way to accomplish my goal. Do I have to build a system that uses EFI or can I get around...
Thanks for your reply. I've read the silentpcreview.com board for a little and many say that large PSUs are a waste of money?a high quality low wattage supply is perfectly fine. But I've been reading the dfi-street board and they stress the importance of 480W and proper amperage on the 12V line...
I thought this DFI Lanparty board is good for overclocking....I don't know much about the case but I know it was highly recommended on SPCR. Any other comments, suggestions?
The main processor intensive tasks will be to encode audio and back up dvd's using the cinema craft encoder; I want to overclock the system, I'm not going to play games on it and I want the system almost silent. What do you think? Build
I'm at college. I've got a few questions for y'all. First, is there anyway for me to open a port or find an open one so that I can configure my BitTorrent client better?
Secondly, I notice that in my dormitory the internet is a lot slower than it is in the library or other academic...
In the first stages of overclocking, when you are determining the fastest that your particular processor will go, is it always a good idea to use the highest multiplier possible? Is it possible that a lower multiplier will find a higher speed?
http://www.silentpcreview.com/article166-page1.html Just a little more information: When the computer restarts from windows it will usually not POST. When I do I cold start up, it generally does POST. And restarting from the BIOS is about 50/50.
My computer will sometimes post after restarting. When it doesn't, the computer will just sit there until I poke the restart button, after this it usually POSTs but not always. Any Ideas?
I'm running at 2460, but I think I can go faster. I think the chip is capable of 2.5 but it won't boot into windows when I go to 250 HTT. What are your suggestions?
Multiplier: 10
HTT: 246
Memory @ 2.5-3-3-7 205MHz (166/200)
CPU @ 1.6V
Thanks
I set the CPU multiplier to 6, I thought that was the same thing as the HT Multiplier. If not, I guess I need to change it. Does it deal with the CPU or the memory. WHere do I change it?
Today I tried my first attempt at overclocking and it didn't go so well. :( I followed all the directions in zebo's sticky but I couldn't even get the HTT/FSB past the stock 200! Anything above that and the computer wouldn't POST. Here's what I did: I set the CPU multiplier to 6, and set all of...
I'm deciding between these two boards because the NF4-D is 12 bucks cheaper. I'm not that cheap, I just want to know why the same board, without the "ultra" designation would be cheaper. What does ultra do? Is it worth the price?
