    What problems should I look for in a '96 Golf TDI?

    I have not heard of any major complaints/problems with the earlier golfs (mid 90's). I have a new jetta TDI and am hoping that it is as reliable as reported. The TDI club website is frequently down. Don't give up on it. I have visited there recently myself.

    I have no experience with W2K. In order to have the drive even seen I believe it has to be formatted prior to installing xp. My question is, unless I'm completely ignorant, is there a one step process to format and designate NTFS?

    I had a similar problem, flashing lights, inability to boot from a floppy and the Bios ROM checksum error message when trying to boot from the floppy. I mannually cleared the cmos by using the jumper on the mb and everything was fine. You might give it a try.
