Oh yeah, I should add that the guy of course 'needs' his data and doesn't have any backups and the computer is a Systemax which is evidently tied with Tiger Direct. All things considered, I'm quite worried that this is going to go badly for the customer.

Fresh OS install

While I stop well short of chastising you for asking the question, I would say the answer is "Ask her." Everybody uses different stuff, and you're the only one with access to knowing her needs. You have an OS and basic protection, from that point on it's entirely personal choice and needs based.

^^^^ Good advice. Suppose that I already did those things, then what? (I've already cleared CMOS, and I highly doubt that I killed the SATA controller since the drives are detected at post and show up correctly in bios-it's a Windows problem)

where to recycle computer parts/monitors?

Often times Goodwill or Salvation Army will take them. Also, you local government IT guys should know of a place since they probably encounter this situation fairly often.

Dude, look @ what you wrote. There are only three major differences with 6800nu and 6800GT. 12 vs. 16 pipes, 5 vs. 6 shaders (minimal), and memory speed. I throw out clockspeed because it can be brough up on the nu to nearly the same, but the lack of pipes and memory bottleneck keep the nu way...

I read that the iE version is the NV42 core and the AGP version is the 40's. The difference (assuming that's true) is that the 42's were made with 12 pipes and on the .090 process while the 40's have 16 pipes (4 disabled in GS) and are on the .11 process. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong-this...

So, when you guys do the pin mods, (thanks a ton for the linkage) do you do the mods on the CPU pins, or by putting wires in the correct pin holes in the socket? Seems to me that the socket would be easier, but I'm open to hearing the best way.

Double Genius Points for this one....BIOS won't detect hard drive, but strange behavior

Usually Win2K. I've cruched with most everything and currently have 4 Win2K and one 98. Seems like Linux clients are usually a little slower to me too, but that could just be my experience/observation.
