If your going to Microcenter you get a free AMD MB with most AMD CPUs. That make the difference is greater. I'm in the same boat as you, so i just decide to OC my current CPU and wait next year and then see how AMd is doing.

1080p is so next to worthless for most people. No on air, even from cable or DTV is in 1080p. Only thing in 1080p is BlueRay and even then unless you are closer then 10 ft you can't see the difference. Sorry but 720p will be good for the life of any TV you buy.

GS is not faster. But since it has more memory it will do better in the high resolutions. The 512 verison of the GT blows away the GS in all benchmarks. If you play in high resolution the 8800GT 512 and 9600GT are both better cards. If you play in low res. then all cards are pretty good.
I think you might be right but bench marks dont really support you except with quake and 1 other. The other 6 benchmarks the 8800gt 256 beats the 9600gt.
