  1. Good-bye?- Anandtech

Same for me. I am glad they are keeping the content up for posterity and the forums will continue to operate, but it definitely feels like part of the long march to a lower quality internet.
  2. Question Strange Internet Performance Issues Over Wireless

I have some time to do some testing this weekend. One of my tests is going to be setting the router into AP mode and connecting a single device to it so it is basically a wireless bridge directly to WAN.
  3. Question Strange Internet Performance Issues Over Wireless

The issue was duplicated on a TP-Link Archer AX6000, Archer AX90, and an Asus RT-AX86U. The two TP-Links are on different chipsets and OSes.
  4. Question Strange Internet Performance Issues Over Wireless

I’m using my own router, I’m actually not sure about the modem hardware, I live in a condo building and have Ethernet directly into my unit which is connected to fiber (probably in a networking closet somewhere). Correct on the VPN connection, but doing it at the router seems like an excellent...
  5. Question Strange Internet Performance Issues Over Wireless

Just tested with a VPN, it also allows the traffic to go faster. Is my ISP identifying wireless traffic and throttling it? How?
  6. Question Strange Internet Performance Issues Over Wireless

All three routers ha all of the “fun” Firewall/AV/DPI/QoS stuff turned off, but even if they were the cause, they should be causing it on the wired connections as well. I am willing to believe even two products from the same vendor have a problem, but I am struggling with the idea that three...
  7. Question Strange Internet Performance Issues Over Wireless

I am experiencing the strangest internet performance issues that I have ever encountered and could use some additional ideas for how to test and narrow down the problem. The setup: 1gbps symmetric internet connection 802.11ax router One wired linux server which provides DNS for the network One...
  8. AMD Ryzen 3000 Builders Thread

Anyone that has a 3800x willing to run a little experiment for me? Can you set the TTP (total socket power) to 88 watts and a do a cinebench run? I'm curious how it compares to a 3700x.
  9. AMD Ryzen 3000 Builders Thread

I don't think I have heard it - at idle the system (sitting on top of my desk ~2 feet from me) is essentially silent, doing anything more intensive means the cpu/case/gpu fans have spun up and are louder than it must be.
  10. AMD Ryzen 3000 Builders Thread

Finished my first build in quite some time this week: 3700x w/Noctua NH-L9a 32gb of 3200C16 RAM (E Die, may try and drive this to 3600 at some point) X570 I AORUS PRO MSI 2060 Super Ventus OC DAN A4 (7.2l micro case) I'm not really chasing the absolute maximum from the CPU in such a small case...
  11. AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 and 56 Reviews [*UPDATED* Aug 28]

I don't really understand why this whole thing has been confusing - AMD offered a rebate to retailers so they'd sell the cards at the target price instead of gouging. AMD only offered so many of these rebates because it probably cost them a good chunk of change and they ran out of the launch...
  12. AMD Vega (FE and RX) Benchmarks [Updated Aug 10 - RX Vega 64 Unboxing]

While it is definitely important to move forward with new game dev APIs and such, the end goal is always for the gamers to get better looking video games, and I'd argue that games are continually improving right now even using the old APIs due to the additional performance afforded them with...
  13. AMD Vega (FE and RX) Benchmarks [Updated Aug 10 - RX Vega 64 Unboxing]

It seems like AMD expected that their architecture would be the primary target for games after winning the console business, which is a pretty good strategic bet, but they ended up flat out wrong. Mantle/Vulkan and DX12 have not made nearly the dent they had hoped in the amount of time they...
  14. Ryzen's poor performance with Nvidia GPU's. Foul play? Did Nvidia know?

Why is this confusing? Every step of the process isn't handled by the GPU, portions are still done by drivers which run on the CPU. If the GPU is doing more it is because the drivers (running on the CPU) are sending more instructions.
  15. Benchmarks Are Probably All Wrong

As a purchaser benchmarks need to fundamentally answer two questions: Does the product being benchmarked fit my needs? How does the product compare to competitors which may also fit my needs? I really think #2 is such an obsession for hardware fanboys, which drive views/clicks, that we lose a...
  16. Nvidia vs AMD's Driver Approach in DX11

Think about all the Ryzen benchmarks you've seen with a 1080 or Titan... It totally makes sense to use the the fastest card available for benchmarking but I don't think we've ever seen such a huge disparity due to display driver optimizations not matching up with a new CPU architecture before...
  17. Nvidia vs AMD's Driver Approach in DX11

Man, this effect seems even more obvious in the Ryzen 5 review. Check out the difference on Rocket League.
  18. Nvidia vs AMD's Driver Approach in DX11

Literally the whole argument the video made is that nvidia's driver examines the incoming calls and splits it into command lists across multiple threads which are then delivered to the GPU. Nothing else you said provides evidence to the contrary while the video makes some compelling arguments...
  19. AMD Ryzen (Summit Ridge) Benchmarks Thread (use new thread)

My guess is that it means they will give a NDAd presentation to review sites at the end of February with the NDA lifted during launch in the first half of March.
  20. AMD Zen - Key Dates and Information

A couple of reasons: Auto overclocking may not be enabled by default intentionally Binning based on auto overclocking potential Segmentation for OEMs who turn the auto-OC off
  21. AMD Zen “RYZEN” CPUs Detailed – 8 Cores, 3.4Ghz+ & Auto Overclocking With “XFR”

I get your point in regards to the streaming demo, but the other tests indicate it can go core for core and thread for thread with Intel's 6900k. We won't know why the did that strange test until benchmarks come along.
  22. AMD Zen “RYZEN” CPUs Detailed – 8 Cores, 3.4Ghz+ & Auto Overclocking With “XFR”

I thought they were comparing two 8c/16t chips? So the same number of threads...
  23. AMD Ryzen (Summit Ridge) Benchmarks Thread (use new thread)

Yeah, we get it, you don't believe the hardware will be that impressive in the context of a broader set of benchmarks... or something. Why keep arguing about it?
  24. AMD Ryzen (Summit Ridge) Benchmarks Thread (use new thread)

Countering views in a thread in the AT forums are not a measurement of clarity by any means. Don't get me wrong, I acknowledge the small chance that I could be wrong on this thanks to general marketing BS... but "3.4GHz+" means minimum 3.4GHz, anything else would be absurd.
  25. AMD Ryzen (Summit Ridge) Benchmarks Thread (use new thread)

Don't be obtuse. 3.4GHz+ clearly means 3.4GHz or higher, which means the base clock is 3.4GHz.
  26. AMD Ryzen (Summit Ridge) Benchmarks Thread (use new thread)

The leaks are saying it has auto-overclocking with no predefined "top" boost based on cooling capacity, LN2 was mentioned so it appears it can go balls to the wall on its own without user intervention.
  27. Matt's 91 MR2 Turbo Build

That's awesome man, my buddy had one of these and it was so much fun, I just hated that I couldn't fit in the thing.
  28. AMD Ryzen (Summit Ridge) Benchmarks Thread (use new thread)

Does this line of conversation seem pedantic and pointless in regards to the topic to anybody else or am I just short tempered today?
  29. [WCCFTech, VCZ]RX 490 briefing happening right now...

The 480 reference design was great for miners.
  30. AMD has trademarked a bunch of goofy names for Zen

I bet ThreadRipper is the name of their SMT implementation, like HyperThreading.
  31. Does an 8/8 Zen "Summit Ridge" SKU make good sense?

Doesn't Intel do four threads per core on Phi? Other than Apple's chips, are any of the mobile CPUs wide enough to benefit from SMT?
  32. Does an 8/8 Zen "Summit Ridge" SKU make good sense?

Until we know price, IPC, clock speeds, per core performance, SMT performance, and everything else about Zen, how could we possibly make a guess as to whether this CPU is necessary or not?
  33. Civilization VI: Performance Analysis (Techpowerup)

I've been enjoying it but it definitely needs some patches/DLC to workout some of the new gameplay mechanics... the usual for a Civ game.
  34. Where is the Anandtech RX480 Polaris Full Review?

Anandtech's hardware reviews are essentially dead unless you like storage, PSUs, phones, or some occasional random hardware that some company's PR team decided to send out.
  35. ZCash/ZEC GPU mining

The economics of ZEC the coin don't really make sense to me, so I've moved everything back over to ETH while the difficulty is lower.
  36. ZCash/ZEC GPU mining

Claymore said 2-3 days for his miner. He's targeting 100S/s on a 390x.
  37. ZCash/ZEC GPU mining

I know it's anecdotal and probably doesn't matter that much in the long run, but after switching my 3x 480 mining rig to ZEC for the weekend I came back to find a dead card. It had been ETH mining without even a reboot for ~2 months so it was a little odd. Edit: So, interestingly enough, moving...
  38. Ethereum GPU mining?

$0. None has traded hands on any public markets yet.
