If the Bios does not see your SATA so it is probably dead on arrival! I had the same problem and I took the HD back to exchange with a new one. Yuo should have yours checked in another machine.

My Win is already installed in the IDE HD. I've tried to install the sATA HD on the VIA with no success. The BIOS doesn't even recognize! It says no driver on the mastr 0. Therefore I'm beginning to think that this HD is dead on arrival! Gotta take back to the store to check it...

Maybe your CPU really failed! If you only have psu + mb + CPU + memory, there is not much else you can disconnect. It could be mb also. Can you take the CPUI back to the store and test it in another system?
