I would go for a well-configured member of the IBM T-series . (I believe their current model is T42). The large corporation that I work for has standardized on these. They are reliable, stable, built for corporate use and well-supported. Typing this msg at work on my trustworthy 4 year old...
I attempted d'ling the DVD image for Core 2 onto my HD (NTFS). The downloads load and show only 72Megs even though they SHOULD be 4 GB. Tried this at official Fedora site as well at a mirror (rsync://ftp.ndlug.nd.edu/fedora-linux-core) with the same result, so I am loading the 4 CDs. I loaded...
Absolutely. I can do whatever I need on Windows. The whole idea is to learn Linux. If I get stuck I'll holler. The worst part of Linux as in any new technology is learning the new jargon.
Thanks for the help guys. I actually d'led the package in text mode ang got pretty far with it but it ended up conking out my MBR so that my machine would no longer boot up XP even after running fdisk/mbr from the command line. I then wiped out all my partitions and tried installing Linux...
I am a total Ninux newbie. I got a book "Red Hat Linux Fedora fo Dummies" as part of a Compute Book Club. Really I didn't want it but I forgot to check th "Do not send box." I figured what the heck - I'm building a new box and it's a good time to duall boot it with XP and learn Linux. Much...

I had leaned toward the 3.4E but I hadn't noticed previously that the Prescott was OEM and therefore didn't come with fan and heat sink. That's why it was cheaper. I didn't want to bother looking for other things to buy since I was already over-budget on my machine. Therefore, I went...

I bought the blue window. It looks nice. I haven't bough my lights yet and will buy them retail. CompUSA is across the street from my apartment., so I can buy them the mod stuff one piece at a time to fine tune the look. Thanks for your help.
I need to make a decision (soon) on which processor to buy for my Asus P4C800 Deluxe MB. I can get the Intel 3.4C GB (Northwood) or the Intel 3.4E GB (Prescott). The Prescott is $10 cheaper at Egghead. Which is the better chip? I am not a big gamer and will probably run it stock.

Silver. I like the answer soneone gave here about silver case with black drives. I'm in process of building a new machine based on a silver wavemaster. It seems so hard trying to get matching silver drives. Maybe I'll try black instead. After all the WM has a door.

I also saw them in a retail store at CompUSA
Thanks. I never thought about scratching and dust as an issue. I'm in NYC and dust is a major issue with every computer I've owned. Like I said I like the blue color but I'm concerned that it limits me to only using blue lights inside. I was thinking of adding a touch of red and some purple...
I haven't built my own computer for a few years so I decided I just needed to get it out of my system. The hardest decision these days is the case. I fianally decided on tthe Coolmaster Wavemaster in Silver. I like the quality and the curved front.
Now the real quandary. How to do a...
I like both cases, though I'm not sure what I think of the dial on the Cavalier. Looks like a meat thermometer. I vote for the Wave Master.
I'm new around here and trying to get ideas on what case I want for my own new system. It seems the case is the hardest decision. So far I like the...
