How come LCD's are still so expensive?

They dont let us use our own furniture in our dorms. :( Geeks appreciate CRTs. Obiously you people talking about color quality and response time prefer crts, while the yuppies are talking about how cool LCDs look when they truthfully arent as practical.

My 15" lcd saved me a hell of a lot of desk space in college. I couldnt even fit a 17" monitor on the scrawny desk they had in my dorm without my face being 5 inches from the screen. With the flat panel, I could have a monitor AND a keyboard on my desk. yay! Expect LCD prices to drop even...

Cuz flash memory is not suceptible to shakage. HDD players with moving parts will start skipping when you exercise with them. Dont believe those dancing ipod commercials - when you move the ipod around like that for more than a minute it will start skipping.

Keyboard: Natural vs. Standard

An ergonomic/natural keyboard would probably be just as good as a standard keyboard at gaming depending on what games you play - I just like having all the buttons closer together when I need to use one hand on the mouse and one hand for the whole keyboard simutaneously for FPS games.

"Natural" Keyboards? Are you talking about Ergonomic keyboards? I use them at school and a regular at home. They are awesome for typing long documents or emails - I could type for hours on one of those and never get sore. At home I use a standard keyboard which is IMO better for gaming.

If you plan on overclocking the video card, get an MSI 9800 pro. Its actually the XT hardware in disguise, and will come up as an XT in the device manager. Then all you have to do is raise the core and memory speeds and you've got instant XT\ (albeit with less memory, but that doesnt do much...

Recommend me a good headset for gaming

Its all relative. If someone wants XT performance, they can buy a 9800 pro and OC it. If someone wants more than XT performance, they can buy a XT and OC that.

Whats the timeframe look like for SLI, dual core?

Anyone have an educated guess as to when these technologies will be widely available? (ie sli mobos out by several brands) I was planning on building a future-proof system up until now. If its unlikely that SLI will be out by february, then I'll just scavange and upgrade my current setup.

9800pro -> 9800xt

This is useless if you already have the card, but if you get MSI's 9800 pro, it's automatically read as a 9800xt in device manager. Then theoretically you just have to overclock to XT speeds and you've got a 9800XT (you might need to put better cooling on it). It works with the 128 version too

Well this just solidifies my fear that SLI is going to break ati's back. They haven't even announced dual-gpu development yet and nVidia's platform is almost out the door. Once dual pci-e becomes publicly available, nvidia is going to have a massive advantage - normally you wouldnt spend $400+...

Doom 3 = disappointment

I, for one, enjoy the game immensely. I dont think there is such a thing as a game that will blow you away. Every game I've ever played disappointed me in some fashion or another but I still enjoyed them - and this game disappoints me less than usual. I believe this is a notch above farcry...

So what is the real processor speed?

I was reading an article on the Athlon 64 3500+ (939) processor and assumed that it was a 3.5ghz processor. However, later the article talks about it having a 2.2 ghz processor and Im like WTF, that sounds slow as nuts. Plz help this noob understand what they are talking about
