GA-EP43-DS3 RAM slot issues

Need help installing Windows XP Pro

Do you have a PATA drive you can try to eliminate SATA as the culprit? Is the SATA drive correctly jumpered? (I recently got a OEM SATA drive from NewEgg and it had to be jumpered as it had none and one was needed to make it work).

Can I "migrate" an XP install onto my new drive w/o re-installing?

Maybe - if the SATA drive requires drivers, you may be able to install them prior to the move so the SATA drive will be supported when you make the switch. I've had some luck with cloning a PATA drive to a SATA (if that's what you're doing). Other times a fresh install was the only way to go...

saving address book and emails

As the folks above said, search for the .dbx and you'll find your mail store on your ME box - it's in the c:\Windows\Application Data\Identities\{some long number with letters}\Microsoft\Outlook Express directory. The *.wab is the address book. Copy those to somewhere and then "import" them...

How to install Win98??

Can't you do a full install from the XP upgrade disk and simply insert your win98 disk when prompted? In other words, boot with your XP upgrade CD, format the C drive, do a fresh install (not an upgrade - you should be able to do this) and put in the Win98 CD when the install asks to confirm...

Yes, you download the RAID driver file from Asus. The file may be a self-extracting one which preps the floppy disk for you. You'll also need a SATA cable for each Raptor. That's about it. There are no jumpers to set with the Raptors - each drive gets it's own cable and uses it's own SATA...

Yes, your mobo will support this. You'll go into the BIOS, activate RAID, then the SATA channels, reboot, go into the RAID setup, create the array, reboot, go into BIOS, choose boot from the array, then install Windows as you would normally, just make sure you have the RAID drivers on a floppy...

17" or 19" LCD

I recently bought and tried a 17" & 19" LCD., both have native resolutions of 1280x1024. The fonts and icons were tiny on both at 1280x1024. I had to use large icons and increase the font size in all applications I could. Not all apps allow this. I had to use my strongest glasses to...

Unfortunately for you it sounds that way. If everything was done right, none of the symptoms you describe should have been apparent. Maybe this will give you and excuse to get a more powerful card, although what you have/had was no slouch.

GeForce 6800 GT Blue Matrix artifacts

Glad to hear that others had the *exact* same problem as me, except I have a Leadtek A400 GT TDH. The local vendor has already issued a RMA so I have hope that a new card will allow me to enjoy the performance upgrade from a 5900XT.

How's the TT Venus 12 for an a64 ?

When you crank the fan up all the way, be prepared for a loud system. I used one of these for a day and it was tolerable at half speed or below. It really didn't cool all that much more than stock or a Zalman CNPS 7000A-ALCU. I returned mine and got my money back. YMMV...

Bad Athlon 64? Opinions Please

In case anyone is interested, it was a bad CPU. I went to the store and bought another AMD 64 3000+ and put it in the MSI mobo - it fired right up and I am using it now (and thank you for the welcome!)
