Question: viruses (the organic kind)

In summary: why do some viruses (Ebola, AIDS, etc.) kill their hosts? Isn't this detrimental to their ability to survive/reproduce/etc? I'm probably missing the obvious reasons...

Possible to leech Windows 98 off PC?

Got an old Packard Bell at a yard sale for $10 and want to leech the OS off of it before I format, because I'm gonna install Linux. Is there any way to do this?

Anyone know how to open a Pac Bell Legend Supreme 1905 case?

Okay, got a Packard Bell + monitor, keyboard, and mouse with Win98 at a yard sale for $10. The hard drive is 3GB, and I have another old PC lying around and want to stick its HDD into the Packard. Thing is, I can't figure out how to open the case, and after basically smashing my old HP to pieces...

Thanks for the replies, all. I've decided to hold off on buying a lappy for a while, since prices are falling. There are quite a few options in the $600-800 price range at the moment.

That's what the official spec page says. The 640MB of RAM isn't so bad if you won't be using it for any memory-intense stuff like gaming, but with 40 minutes of battery life, you'd always need to be by a socket. This pretty much defeats the purpose of a laptop (mobility) so unless you're just...

Is their a limit of what the human brain can learn?

By what logic can you compare the brain to a computer? It's not a hard drive, and I doubt you could ever equate its capacity to kb/MB/GB or vice versa. The human brain is a living, organic object, whereas a computer is artificial and specifically designed to operate in ways we can understand.

40-minute battery and a max of 640MB of RAM... doesn't seem worth it to me, but I guess it depends on your needs.

Toshiba laptop for $599 at bestbuy starting 8/1

I'm also curious about this, is the mobo socket 370 or socket 478? If I can replace the Celeron with a P4 I'm gonna be all over this. Great price even if it is socket 370...
